Since Netbooks are getting more and more famous: What about the status of LJX@PC port? I know, I know: There are other integrated retro game suits, but let's be real: There is NOTHING like LJP, right? :-) Well, there are other suites like Mednafen. LJ's big draw is that it can work pretty well on low-powered devices.

I haven't been on here for a while, I just decided to come back to see how things were going. Anyway, I have found a good easy to port emulator(I have to get in to java hard core first tho) for the samsung instinct. My only issue now is the fact that the instinct is not multi touch >_<.
One idea I had for nes/gb emulator for instinct was having the screen as a dpad with start select on bottom and two of the three buttons on the bottom as A/B.
The hard thing is figuring out if this is possible in the first place with sprint's WITKIT. >_<
That was for anyone who may be leaving PALM towards java touchscreen devices.

Well, there's a thread on here somewhere that covers faking multitouch on a single touch device; however, I'm not sure if that would work in Java.

It's coming along ok'ish. I've got it sensing touch, and it will draw a box if you push in the buttons. But that's about it right now. edit:And you will need ybasic for when I release it. Ybasic is found here www.hotpaw.com/rhn/hotpaw/. I'm not sure if it works in the beta version, but it should run ok in the old version too.

How is it now?

It's coming along quite nicely now. I had to restart it, because I had some unknown error on the previous version that I didn't want to deal with. But I have a good 45 minutes every day on the ride to school to program it (don't worry, I'm not driving and programming at the same time. So it should be close now, sometime in the next few weeks.

An update! I've got it sensing everywhere that I want it too! I've begun work on making it ignore touches in certain areas where the multitouch will read. I still haven't made it draw boxes where the buttons will be, but that takes very little time.

It's getting close! I've learned some of the commands in yBasic that I could never understand before, like Dim. The buttons are drawn out, and the code is partially finished for the top-left and top-mid multi touch! The code will then be easily modified for the other 8 buttons and any other possible combinations! Also: it works with the newest yBasic update.

It's sensing dual touch!!!! But only for 3 button combinations. It's a start! I really want to have this done by Thursday though.

No updates on LJX yet? My new netbook will arrive soon, and I would love to have LJX on it... :-) And no: Mednafen is incomplete, it doesn't support the systems I'm lookin' for! ;-)

i think the project is dead until a few years from now. look at tinnus' avatar :[. Tinnus is waiting for his PS3 and open Pandora to give him some motive as far as LJX goes. Also: Well, the Multitouch was working, until my Zodiac hard-reset. I had everything backed up, except for my memos. I've re-restarted it, and now I'm adding in some more advanced features to make it even more accurate. Progress wise- it's 10% done.

I've kind lost interest in the PS3 part for no real reason, but Pandora's sure to sparkle some interest though, heh. I'm actually completely without time now (although I try to check the board every so often to dismiss rumors of my brutal death). Considering I'll not have much more time from now on anyway (altough the past and upcoming 2 weeks will be heavy) ASAP I'm going to upload the current LJX codebase soemwhere so in the case I can't finish it up properly, somebody else will. The framework's pretty complete already though, mainly missing a GUI for a first usable version.

Oh...I see...so tinnus is dead? :-)
Man, you really should finish this!! I really don't like the idea of playing retro games with anything else than LJX...... :-(

LJX is also my dream, and I do plan to finish it properly someday. But I'm not sure when that could be and I don't want to keep you guys waiting forever Anyway, a good GUI concept would halfway there Remember I want something as usable for a Palm, Zodiac, PSP, Pandora, PC and TV (my ultimate plan is to create a kind of "LJX cabinet")

Because I found the clonekeen source code for when it was ported to symbian and was wondering if that should be used instead.

I just thought I'd chime in with an "I'm not dead yet" -- but like Tinnus, I'll probably pop in around once a month for the near future -- currently looking for work and the process takes a while at this level :\

coder12: Well Symbian C is also derived from C/C++ but it's still different from Palm C. I think it'd be about as hard as porting from PC to Palm, or maybe harder since Symbian C has some memory management while Palm C still requires mallocs.

Yeah, thanks, but I'm taking a different approach to getting commander keen on my pda now, plus I've read the documentation on symbian phones more clearly. (I'd get one just for clonekeen if the prices were low enough) I'm not sure how often I'll come on, probably about once a day, assuming our school's server ever is redone. (I don't have a degree, and all of the tech members at our school do, but yet I know more about technology things than them. Actually, they don't know what a headphone to RCA cable was, OR how to properly network computers) Also: Metaview, are you still alive?

I've been on IT staff before, but am not currently, so it's taken me several years to build up enough trust with them that they've finally figured out that I do actually know what I'm talking about when I bring up computer or networking issues (or ideas for improvements). I check his blog from time to time and he is very much still alive, just not alive here. Palm's dying. We still don't have a port of ScummVM from the latest version and PalmOS has fallen to the list of unsupported platforms . Iphone and symbian are both alive and well...the Wii scene is kicking, yet our beloved Palms are languishing.

It's sad, but maybe it's time to start moving on? If you don't want a phone I'd STRONGLY recommend the Pandora for everyone. It's really powerful and versatile in any way possible for a portable console/netbook/minilaptop Oh, and it's got a lot of really cool people over there, including me at least taking care of part of the PS1 emulator! A lot of other old known faces like skeezix and Prophet are over there as well.

There's also Squidge, Notaz (devs), and OrR from the nice Zodiac people group, and several other folks I can't remember. Really, ALL of the nice GP32/GP2X/Zodiac folks are there And it's got fullspeed PS1 emulation from day one (with a hardware-accelerated high-resolution video driver if I can get it done on time ), not to mention the obvious like Genesis, SNES, Amiga, etc and evrything below that. Of course if I ever get LJX done it will be there as well!

Well im in contact with OrR anyway (via Bike or Die!), but I really should get one (once I get proof that they exist), maybe next batch (march?)

I'm going to wait until I see someone with one, and once I do I'm going to go up to them and say, "Is that THE pandora? Do you have the PSX emulator for it? Yes! Awesome!!!" And then I'll order one.

I've been using LJP for a while and had a few accounts here but kept loosing them as I've changed emails and a couple times and had a fresh install of firefox therefor loosing my saved passwords. I recall you saying that LJX was being programmed in SDL and that you did not like Google Android because you could only write java apps for it. I found this groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/47871c7ac035e847/01731f45b5adce50?lnk=gst&q=sdl#01731f45b5adce50 I'm not sure if this is helpful and just thought I'd let you know. If this is good I may end up getting an android since I need a new phone by the summer and WM7 was delayed to 2010 and who knows how long the new Palm will take. The only thing holding me back from getting an Android is if developers (mostly you guys) don't like it. Also I think the android supports native code now which it didn't when they were having that contest. I like how the Pandora looks but it's not what I need right now.
