I'm calling people to test the OS5 version of that Zodiac PlayStation emulator. Yeah, the one that's in GP2X too and I told you all that the optimizations would be good to us as well. You'll see that I didn't lie  "Any"one wanting to test contact me via PM or mail tinnus at gmail. Include your e-mail address! YOU'RE ELLIGIBLE IF: a) You're active at ZodiacGamer OR b) You're active here AND c) Your posts are constructive and I can read them AND d) I know you  AND e) You're not a kid that just wants to play PS1. No, it DOES work with anything running PalmOS 5. That includes even a Tungsten|E, hehe. Although that would be a tad slow. XScales running at 520MHz will have a pretty good time though |

Can someone give a report to the rest of us "non-testers" how the testing is going. Are the GP2X optimizations making this thing anywhere near playable on Palms.

On high-end Palms (T3, T5, TX, LD, Z72) it goes really well. Some 2d games run almost, almost fullspeed and some 3D run surprisingly fast (I have Megaman Legends running around 70% on my LifeDrive).
Compatibility is still very low though, mainly because of the optimizations we have added.

Yes a beta of psx4palm will come as soon as I sort out some compatibility problems. My current version only works in my LifeDrive and nothing else, heh. |

I can test it on my T|C if you'd like.
There is a problem, though: while I do have PS1 games, they're all physical discs. What am I supposed to do, just rip an .ISO image and stick it on my SD card or something? (No, I don't feel like getting them the questionable way.)
Anyway, it's about time Palm OS gets a PS1 emulator, since the dark side has had FPSECE for a while now. I'll probably just use the OpenGL-ES version of that on my X50v to play PS1, since it doesn't slow down every time I hold down a button(notorious T|C issue), has a faster CPU, and even has a graphics accelerator...but I would at least like to see my T|C compete as well as it can.

From my experience on my Treo700p overclocked to over 500mhz, I was still gettting only a few frames per second on the few games that actually ran. I don't have many of my games in .ISO format (and haven't tried ripping the rest) so I don't know if it was limited to those games or what, but it wasn't particularly playable. Neat to show off to friends as a tech demo, but that's about it.
You'll just have to wait for a more stable version like the rest of us.
