I tried everything and could not get Timidity to work on Zire 72. It simply would not load all the "instruments". It would freeze on one or another while loading. I finally gave up, after all it still has all the in-game sound effects.
Same goes for zHexen. If you figure something out to get Timidity and music running on Zire72 I'd be thrilled.
PS. I tried both Yoyo's basic midi package as well as eawpats. Neither worked.

If somebody specifically with a Zire72 has Timidity working on their device I'd REALLY like to know about. I'd be interested if they did something that varied from the instructions given, because I followed them to the letter and as I say it beginds to load the "instruments" and then freezes. It seems as if its loading exactly the way it should be and then stops.
Anyways if I have some time I'll try again and see what happens (although I tried several times in the past). However, if a Zire72 owner would like to come forward with Timidity working that would be great, because I believe this is a device-specific problem.

YOU must be doing something wrong as it works for ever1 else. Please stop bashing people for nothing. They have a problem and are here hoping thay get helped. Even though you may think that way, try to keep your emotions a little. I didn't want to say that, but if you continue to act like this I'll have to start editing/deleting your posts (the offensive ones of course).

Why not try to use metaview's version. He made an option page where you can disable music. You should give it a try. You can download it at www.metaviewsoft.de/

Okay I have Metaview's version 1.4. I've tried the Standard patches and configuration that come with Timidity, as well as the other two versions on Yoyo's Timidity download page. I have tried both copying the zip to Palm/Programs/Timidity and using Timidity from the Plam-launcher to unzip, as well as, simply copying the uncompressed files directly to Palm/Programs/Timidity/Patches. My Timidity.cfg is always in Palm/Programs/Timidity. I always get some version of the following error after "startng music....please wait" (the numbers may vary in the shown error;
W_ReadLump: only read 0 of 68 168 on lump 612
Sometimes I can proceed past this error with a screen touch, but I then get "can not load patch exceeds LFB" followed by the error below:
R_FlatNumForName: ***** not found (***** being a numerical or alpha value)
My screen will freeze at any one of these stages and I have to soft reset.
I believe this is likely something device-specific to the Zire 72, however, would like to know if any other Zire72 owner has had any success. I enjoy Doom even without music, but would simply like to know if music is a possibility on my device.
Thanks.

I have the same problem with my Zire 72 on ZDoomZ and ZHexen, my timidity isn't working, keeps saying that couldn't load the instruments, but the older versions could run it just fine... I made everything possible, but didn't work, i think the problem is on the sourcecode of the newer versions. I don't know if someone can fix it, but it would be great to listen the musics on my device again =D

I guess noone changed timidity since the beginning, it could also a problem with not enough free memory.

I'm not sure what was meant by "older versions", Timidity has never worked for me on my Zire72. I don't think its a memory issue. I have UDMH with 23mb free dynamic ram and almost 17mb max chunk size. That should be plenty.
However, it does appear to be a problem specific to Zire72. Is srraziel saying that he has had Timidity working on Zire72 in the past??? or that it worked on an older Palm device maybe???
Anyways Metaview I've tried your newest version of zDoomz with Timidity and its still a no go on my Zire72. If you'd like to look into it (I know your very busy with Duke etc) I've listed the errors I receive in a previous post in this thread and would be happy to test any attempt at remedying. Or if you have any suggestions!!
Thanks

Suggestion: Don't allocate 23 mb with UDMH. just 8 or 9. This will be enough. Let the rest stay as it is.
Addition: I wouldn't trust UDMH's output.

i tried to change UDMH settings, but didnt work... i remember when i used to play version 1.0 of ZDoomZ, the timidity was working just fine. It stoped workin on version 1.1 or 1.2, i dont remember... by that time i was using UDMH version 1.7, now i'm on 3.0, maybe it has a relation to this problem.

Wow, so Timidity did work on Zire72 at one time. I haven't been able to get it to work on zDoomz, zHexenz, or zQuake, but I never had that early a version a zDoomz. (I think the first I had was 1.2)
I also tried changing the UDMH settings and that didn't work for me either.

Timidity definitely does NOT work with Zire72, but nobody seems to know why. I've tried everything. If you figure anything out let all of us Zire72 owners know.
