Hello, I've got a Tungsten|E, UDMH (16 Mb free), ZDoomz 1.1 I understand that I have enough free memory for ZDoomz, but the full version of Doom doesn't work. If I launch DOOM1.wad (shareware version), all is OK (just a message "Demo is from a different game version"), but the game plays OK. If I launch Doom.wad (full version), It complains: W_GetNumForName:PNAMES not found! W8CacheLumpNum:-1>=numlumps cannotsys_alloc-1770012572 Bytes free ram:4290/3970 and then it freeze, I must reset the Palm. Can anyone understand what's happening? I know that Doom.wad is bigger than Doom1.wad, but it shouldn't load all the wad in memory at the beginning of the game, should it? Even so, I have more than the mimimal memory requirment Thanks in advance, Fred

Try hard-resetting to defragment your memory. The full Doom works for me.

It's a problem of your wad, I would guess.
W_GetNumForName:PNAMES not found! W8CacheLumpNum:-1>=numlumps
Means it doesn't find some stuff in the wad file. It then crashes, because of missing error checking in the code. That's the usually problems with PC-ports. They never check for errors, memory allocation etc. Try your wad on a PC if it works there. I guess you need another one.
Regards Henk

A few more ideas: Is your copy of UDMH registered? If you are on the trial version, it will often uncheck the "enabled" box, especially after a reset. Run LJP before ZDoomz and check the free RAM, to be sure UDMH is following your settings and is still enabled. It is wise, as mentioned on other posts and in my experience, to leave 1 MB or more of free memory unallocated to UDMH. For example, if you have 16 MB free memory, set UDMH to no more than 15000 K for ZDoomz. About the wad files: I have heard of problems from some of the earlier versions (from when Doom first came out in the early '90s) ; If you've got one of the originals, you might want to pick up a newer copy still available at many software stores. Version 1.666 from retail Doom95 works fine on my T|E. Also, be sure to download the latest version (1.4) of ZDoomz at: www.metaviewsoft.de/en/Software/PalmOS/Freeware/ZDoomZ/index.html

Hello, I realized I didn't update this thread; In fact, it works now! ;D I've copied the wad file again on my computer, renamed it again .mp3, synchronized the palm again, wait, wait, wait a long time, changed the name again on the palm, moved the file again, and it worked fine this time. But I have two questions: - Couldn't the .wad extension been associated with zDoomZ? It would be easier for everybody to transfer the games (and you shouldn't have _twice_ the .wad size free memory to install it) - Is there two parallel developments for ZDoomZ? Yoyofr refers to ZDoomZ 1.2, and there's a 1.4 version at MetaViewSoft

.wad is associated with zdoomz. It will be reassociated at each app start. There are also many free tools which associate every extension wizh your card, no need for renaming... If you check my website you will read that my version is an enhnacement, based on yoyofr's 1.2.

I didn't realized the .wad files where associated with ZDoomZ, the desktop transfer application never wanted to accept .wad file !
I understand that your version is an enhancement, but if yoyofr don't intagrate your work, there's a risk to have two different versions, with different options, no?
Thanks, Frederic

No, yoyofr doesn't do anything on the port anymore, as far as I know.
