i would like to see a feature that plays mp3s from the MS while the emulator is running, similar to DualTetris. while the game sound is turned off, this feature could be turn on. think of it, playing your favorit snes game while listening to your favorit music. my psp would really rock if that happens. ;D

I like the thought of that too, especially if it would be faster than running the sound at 11KHz. Emulated/No output with MP3s playing in the background without a speed hit would be nice.

I think they discussed features similar to this before. It appears that they're already using all or most of the available memory just on the emulator. So unless they can really shrink the memory footprint of SNES (by writing it in native asm?), it's doubtful it'll come around. Great idea, though. It'd be nice just to be able to do that with standard PSP games.

I don't know anything about media players or how much memory an MP3 player and codec would use, but I belive I can save about 5MB of memory by working on the emulator core. (The compatability will drop a bit though, so unless someone's sure they can get an MP3 player working I won't do it) I still don't have my main rig up so I wouldn't be able to compile it either, someone else would have to do the compiling with the updated files I send them.
If I wanted to work on it alot (I don't) I could, in theory, get the total footprint down to about 16MB, that includes memory allocated for a ROM image too.

A good feature would be to view your pics while still in the emulator so u wont have to close the emulator then open it up everytime you get stuck

Craig588 - have you suggested your improvements to the dev team? I mean, if you think you could save that much space, even if you don't feel like doing it, I'm sure Yoyofr and them could use the ideas in the next release(0.4, not 0.3).

It's mainly about optimizing buffer usage. I did alot of work on a SNES emulator for the PocketPC using an ARM7 CPU.I havn't checked too deeply into how TYL is allocating ROM space, but the way that the SNES9X team did it was for extreme compatability, but I only know of 2 things that are large enough to require the full limits of those buffers. I remember one of them is the modified Star Ocean image that doesn't use the SDD chip and has the entire game extracted into a standard image. I don't remember anything specific about the other one.
You can remove the emulators ability to address anything over 6MB and drop the size of the ROM image storage area to 6MB as well. That helps a bit on speed and alot on memory usage, but it might hurt games that use a check to ensure that the limits of SNES addressing system can be hit. (I'm not sure if one exists, but it wouldn't be hard to impliment.
This will break anything that uses extra CPUs too, the CPUs are addressed at the very end, after the ROM image IIRC.

Why would you listen to music other than that of the game playing? Honestly.

Because face it some of the music from then sucked, and it would rock to jam out to Millencollin or Goldfinger while tearing up some demons in castlevania. Or some NIN while killing in MK3.

Yeah, some of it sucked *coughDragonWarriorcough*, but some was pretty good to listen to like Final Fantasy 3 and Chrono Trigger. It would be a nice idea, anyway. If craig588 was able to produce an alpha version based on the SNES9xTYL source, I'd send him $5 on Paypal.

I don't want money. I don't know anything about the MP3 format (Or pretty much any format) I could strip the emulator down, and already said I'd do that if there's someone that wants to work on it.
I earn a few hundred dollars a day. 5$ doesn't matter to me.

Well, now we just have to see if anyone is willing to write an mp3 player for the PSP. Sadly, I know nothing about any of that (Java being my langauge of choice), but my $5 donation still stands!

A good beer, too. You could get a nice pint of German beer for $5 at a fancy pub.

I think most of the people would do a lot if they knew how. That would be what separates us lowly end-users from the deified developers. (^_-)

to add mp3 playback isn't hard since I already implemented it in neocdpsp. I'll give it a try when I've time

Yoyo can you add a delete option for savestate files. Im tired of having many savestate files in the emulator. Especially that I can't see which savestate file I want to delete on my computer & it would help me cause I got a 32MB Memory Stick(Small Memory SUCKS when it cames to space for what you want in it). Would be good to connected the PSP to the computer & delete a folder containing savestate file to remove from the PSP. I don't think its hard to put this feature but it would be great for me & other people too. I respect everything TYL does & I'm hoping for that Christmas release. Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year.

Another Question: What firmware version would the next release use to play the emulator?

Well, it may still work with the 2.00 Eboot Loader.
Also, a nice feature along with deleting savestates would be being able to delete ROMs. Sometimes, I beat a game or it just doesnt't work, I usually get rid of it to free space. If it was implemeted into TYL, it would be much more convenient.
Happy holidays!

Also, a nice feature along with deleting savestates would be being able to delete ROMs. quote] that's a great idea, i've not thought of that. it would be really nice to be able to delete all the lame roms that i always upload into my MS just to test it. good thinking.
