Love your work - although I use firmware 2.6 / GTA Exploit,
snes9xTYL is is still my favorite choice inm SNES emulation on PSP. Many games will run on 60 FPS, when I turn the sound off. Some games can be even tweaked like DKC and run in 60 FPS with sound (11khz), when one BG is turned off and so on....
But some questions came to my mind. Some of them might not belong here (might rather belong to fanjitas place), but maybe some of you can answer me too
1)
Why is it so hard to emulate SNES on PSP without media engine / kernel mode ?
I ask this, because i also use the Mega Drive / Genesis Emulator "DGEN 1.30", which works really fine. With exception of a few titles, all Genesis games run on 60 FPS with vsync - only the sound seems to slow down, but thats more or less acceptable.
Segas Genesis / Mega Drive had less graphic-tools and extras like mode 7, but it was overall more powerfull than the SNES, since the motorola 68000 was clocked in almost 8 Mhz and the co-processor (z80) had 4 Mhz - all more powerfull than any chip in the SNES. Still, SNES-emulation seems harder than Genesis-Emulation. Why is that so ?
2) Why hasn't anybody tried to undo the changes made in Firmware 2.0?
The Idea: Those firmwares are dumped, right? Why doesn't anybody compare vers. 1.5 and 2.0 to find the difference and just undo that changes? Same could be done with firmware 2.6.
What i mean is: All sony has done, is to fix the holes. Basicly, no or only minor changes have been made to the general structur of the firmware, so versions 1.5 and 2.6 shouldn't be too different, except the safety-changes and new added elements like the webbrowser and so on.
So what if somebody took version 2.6 and just pasted the security-hole back in and called it 2.7, so that even ppl with 2.6 could upgrade ?
Hey - I think the Idea MUST have come to some peoples minds, but probably it doesn't work, and I just wanna know why. I don't wanna be a "smartass", just wanna know , why this idea won't work, so don't start flaming *g
