Like the name of the topic says, what features you would like to see on snes9xTYL?
I'll start:
1 - Combination of buttons to do a quick save/load within the game, without the need to go to emulator menu.

eh the stereo/mono option sounds awesome. same with the intro on/off (but it would have to be off by default)
now for me? i would like to see a built in simple notepad that opens and saves using the s9xTYL's current text input "used for cheat names"
would be easy too, theres already a file browser and everything

I will priortize my features wish list:
(1). Network play to be optimized further - If needed or if possible (2). Infrastructure network play - if possible - Ideally you would enter into a lobby via the PSP's wifi connection to see what games are being played that need a 2nd player. For instance you enter lobby and see there is a person waiting for a 2nd player for Super Bomberman, Mortal Kombat 2, and NHL 96. So you select Super Bomberman, load up your ROM and the host starts the game. But then comes the question of needing the SAME ROM. So there would have to be built in ROM checks, etc. Probably very far fetched but would be insanely cool.
I would love to know what yoyo & laxer3a think about the limits of network play regarding the SNES & this Emulator.
There really is not that much else that this EMU needs as far as features. It has SO much. So the best thing to do would be to optimize as best as possible to hope for minor speed / performance gains.

Not to type all the cheats(codes) for game genie/ar2 ... just start rom , go to a "cheat-menu" in snestyl and choose a code "inf. health" ... I know this is to big to do. But maybe there is a complete list with ALL codes somewhere ;D Would be a nice feature. Second is the notepad which would be cool too. Not much more to say since 0.4me . Another cool function would be if You have an extra Menue Point for spc music where you can Browse your saved music, play them and choose as standard backround sound or random.

Hi,
1/ I think TYL is now entering a phase where performance can still be increased a bit, but not anymore. Dispatching audio on ME was a big trouble maker but it was worth it in term of performance for people wanting the sound.
2/ I still believe that we can optimise the speed +5% if we do correctly, I am fighting with that this week actually, having my code going up and down in performance... When I do change pointless details !!! Really time consuming and annoying.
3/ Netplay stability, gui improvment, ... are the kind of stuff that is probably mainly going to improve from now on. As I said before, we will not have huge performance jump as we did before and will focus more on detail request.
4/ Using the net could be an option, but the problem is the time lag... Not only the internet itself is just too much laggy for our current implementation, but the unstability of the wireless in general is not helping also.

First i've gotta say thanks for all the hard work that has gone in to making the emulator. It's great! ;D Features I would like to see: The ability to turn off all eyecandy in the menus etc, so that all I see is text and no borders or transitions (maybe with a very minimal set of 2 colour icons at the most - I'm happy to help make them if needed). And also more speed in the emulator is always appreciated. I was one of the users who had to use the new version of the emulator without the intro vid cos i kept getting a white screen (so i guess that could go). I personally use my PSP to play games on the tube daily. This means that i want to boot in to the interface quickly and get in to a game for a quick fix. So any intros or eyecandy aren't high on my list of things to be in the emulator. I'm happy for a loading screen to contain the authors details and messages in text, as long as it doesnt use pics and vids (which i guess increase the file size, memory use, cpu use which = battery use). Please don't take these suggestions harshly, as i really do like the emulator a lot. Thanks!

As I said before, we will not have huge performance jump as we did before and will focus more on detail request. This is very encouraging news. I am soooo happy to hear this. I LOVE the small details such as the GUI, transition effects, intro screen, added features, etc. This Emulator is beyond just another homebrew app. This is superior to any commercial attempt to bring added functionality to the Sony PSP. This, to me, makes the PSP priceless. Its like one of those commercials: Cost of Sony PSP $249.99, Cost of 2GB memory stick $89.99, being able to relive Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, & more........... PRICELESS - Again, AMAZING work yoyo & laxer3a -

But you could relive those without spending the almost 400 US$...
Hell, you could BUY those games AND an SNES AND a TV for less... Or you could buy a weak laptop that could play zsnes for less with more features. Or you could buy a.......
My point is, the PSP is too expensive to be JUST used as an snes emulator.

Or you could buy a weak laptop that could play zsnes for less with more features. Or you could buy a....... My point is, the PSP is too expensive to be JUST used as an snes emulator. Blasphemy! I have played the SNES EMU on my laptop, I have plugged in my SNES console and played on the TV, hell I have even tried SNES EMu's on other portable devices. Its not the same. Nothing beats the PSP when it comes to portable emulation. And nothing beats this Emulator. To be able to preserve and relive so much of my youth and enjoyment in certain games with this EMU is worth well more than $400.00. Its priceless, like I said. And with all of the other great EMU's for the PSP, the PSP is THE BEST portable multimedia device. Period. But anyway, no sense getting into an opinionated debate over the economics of PSP Emulation and wether its worth it or not. Its just my opinion that the PSP & the TYL EMU breathe new and better life into the SNES.

i also agree that the psp is well worth the money because of homebrew........but features i would like to see. 1) better spc player. i know its just a bonus feature, but a hell of a good one. but some of the classic spc files crash the emu, like star fox, and f-zero. and i agree with kimcane that you should be able to set a default track, or select which file can be played. 2) a way to import cheat codes would be nice, but i dont really use then any way. 3) what else is there that you guys havent done extremely well? great piece of home brew. keep up the fantastic work.

well the cheat codes TYL uses are the same as as Snes9X for the PC. So you could just enter it on the PC and copy the cheat file and put in in the save directory with the same name as the game you want to cheat on.

A quicksave and quickload feature would be greatly appreciated. And a more stable netplay(every time we use special moves on MK2 the emulator resyncs ;D)

One feature that would be good is an option to emulate a super scope (snes shooter) or a mouse the crosshairs or pointer would be controlled by the thumbstick.
You can always tweak the fps limit or the cpu clock to adjust the speed of the game.
games that this could be good for is: mario paint super scope 6 - the arcade game that came with the super scope. yoshi safari

i have always wondered if you could play mario paint on snes9xtyl but i've always been to lazy to try it out. it would be great if that game could be up and running with the mouse being controlled by the analog stick. also, would it be possible to have mp3 playback and to make any jpeg image for a background automacially fit or scaled?

I would like to see a custom GUI music menu, where you could play maybe, MIDI files in? Not while playing your games of course, but when you are in the emulator's menu. I keep hearing on the board that mp3's are too much, so... MIDI would work. You could have an option like "Edit Music Playlist", where you could build a playlist out of MIDIs stored in a folder you choose. Also, a custom background menu too. For backgrounds you could put something like "Set Background" in the menu, then it would open up to a folder of your choice with said backgrounds in it.

I dont think that emulating the super scope would be nice actually... Not because it is technically impossible but just because the game play is so different from the original hardware.
Yoyo from start was thinking about mp3, the ME is here anyway... So yes it is possible. (If I am correct, his neogeo emu has it)
About MIDI file ? It is a real pain, you must have a bank of instrument... Moreover we are not going to make a Multimedia Center / Video For Windows on PSP :-P
For the background, you can just modify the archive with the pictures inside and replace with your own stuff.

MIDI would be _immensely_ difficult. You'd need a software program such as timidity, and a set of instruments, which could be up to 100+MB of space. Yes, 100+MB.
Not to mention the PSP is not really fast enough to play MIDI files through a software synthesizer.

the only thing i want now is the first suggestion.
And maybe personallized chip games... like you hardcode the processes of each chip then in the options, select which chip that game uses
There would be a standard "user friendly" option too. but for advanced users, selecting it would be good so mode 7 could go faster and starfox would run better.
even though what we have now is enough for me, im just throwing things out.

here is one feature that i would appreciate a combination of buttons to quickly switch between players on a turn based game, such as in Mario World

Netplay- Saving state so you won't lose hard work (I almost beat the second level of TMNT with my buddy) and better performance.
Normal Play- Better handling gfx chips
More people to help you guys.

The abiility to send files wirelessly from one psp to another from the main menu would be nice.
