Okay, while camping this week I discovered something interesting. When you go to the ROM select menu, the PSP will allow you to do a half-ass standby. It turns all functions down, but not totally off. This issue is, as soon as you either select a different game/ restart the previous game you crash. .
Not sure if this will help.
It just seems to me that if you could fake the middle part of the sound transfer when a new game loads, you may be able to get standby back up.
