Because developers usually don't like Windows

It's a group of modifications by WIP (work-in-progress) participators. Since it's easier to develop on UNIX-based OSes, the developers use Linux.

Easier to devellop on Unix ? give me a break. Nothing is worth a good VC++ debugger :-) GDB... It rocks ?

GDB does rock, it's just not nearly as intuitive.
Plus it's 000$ to develop on Unix, but hundreds to develop on Windows(without using Cygwin, which isn't as good as an actual Unix), and you still won't have it as good as if you were just using Freebsd/Linux.
