Hello! I've owned a LifeDrive since a while and have LifeKeys on it to play games correctly. I've been using NesEm 1.4b since a while which I like but doesn't run some ROMs correctly (Double Dragon III doesn't show player select OK).
I found LJP a few weeks ago, I believe it's a wonderful, awesome project. Tried it on a friend's Zire 72 with UDMH 3.2 on it... play wonderfully NES roms (DD III player select appears perfectly), Sega (Sonic 1, 2 and 3), SMS (Sonic SMS), and SNES (Mario Kart and MK1,2,3).... it was just excellent. Never imaginated to have all those games on a palm.
Therefore, I installed LJP 1.0 RC2 on my LifeDrive (LD). Couldn't get it work. The installation was ok, launcher worked ok, but when I launch a ROM not matter which console, it crashes. Message:
MemoryMgr.c, Line:3752, NULL handle
or
DataMgr.c, Line:8898, DmWrite: DmWriteCheck failed
Because of it i can't play ANY Rom... only GB Tetris. Not even NES roms which use only 2000-4000 kb ram... NONE
I have 4300 Kb of free Ram (on LJP Launcher it appears so) and 11.6 MB free Storage Ram. Apparently other LD users have the same problem and recommend LJP beta 0.7 to solve problem. It didn't.
UDMH doesn't solves the problem either... even with 10000 kb ram (config UDMH to 10000 kb for LJP). Tried to Lock LJP with Resco Locker 1.10 which solved some problems like the ones i had with PalmRevolt 0.93.... not even Locking LJP solves the problem.
I don't know what happens.... LD isn't compatible/supported by LJP?? should I use SD to play? should I use Internal drive to play? should I take the sd off the slot when running LJP? What to do?
Or Will LJP 1.0 RC3 solve those problems?
Thanks for answering....

Weird, there are people with LDs that can play. I think. veggie for example IIRC... I'm not sure about the cause of the problem.
Have you updated your LD to 2.0? It makes LifeKeys useless, among other fixes. If you did, this may as well be the cause of the problem, dunno if anyone reported success with the update 2.0.

I have a LifeDrive, and LJP works for me. Here's some suggestions: - In UDMH, leave "Show _____K of dynamic memory" blank (also, the new UDMH 5.0 beta seems to run LJP better) - LJP seems to runs better when the roms are on the SD card - Before launching LJP, quit any launchers you have, such as Silverscreen or Megalauncher. - Install 2.0 Update for LifeDrive. It improves memory stability and fixes multi-button pressing bug. - For SNES and GENS emulators, choosing "C" for the CPU Core configuration is more stable for me
I hope this helps.

i have and LD and it works perfectly. it did before i upgraded to LD 2.0 and after. i set the settings in udmh to 60000. and when i enter any of tinnus' apps i hav to enter them and exit. go to udmh, then hold the "home" until apps appear in the menu. click on LJP and the custom udmh settings will be activated. also upgrade to udmh 5.0 for enhanced speed.

OK,... thanks for answering, now i'll keep you informed.
-I updated to UDMH beta 5. -I set UDMH for LJP to 7000 Kb and to Show _____ Kb (when I left it blank on LJP it displayed 16196 Kb of RAM) -(I have guineapig 0.15 installed... is it a problem?) -I use LD version 1.0 still; don't have update 2.0 yet because I use a spanish LD version and on palm's website they say other languages version of update 2.0 will soon be available. -I installed LJP 1.0 RC2 (binnaries) via QuickInstall, launched it and then -Installed ZEM files via QuickInstall, too. -ROMs are now located to a SD Card -ZEM files were put to the SD Card, too (should I put them on the HD?) -LJP.ini is located on the HD
Progresses: -I still can play GB Tetris -I can play Sonic the HedgeHog for SMS (couldn't before) with or without UDMH enabled -Doesn't crash when I launch GENZ ROMs... but there are some messages: -Error while unzipping -3 -.zem file has wrong version number. Please check your install. -Version got/wanted : 18F0/0100
And, I used .zem file on the LJP1.0RC2.zip (binnaries) file, and my ROM IS NOT ZiPPED... it's a .bin file. Also those messages appeared on .smd extension ROM.
-My palm still crashes if I try to play ANY NES Roms...
Thanks for your support and replies... Should anybody have other ideas, please let me know. I'll keep you informed on progress just after replying.
Thanks for taking time to answer Tinnus and Veggie.

Progress 2:
Also when I try to play Mario Kart (SNES ROM) the messages i said that were told by any GENZ ROM are showed too.
They are (on order of apperance separeted by OK buttons):
-Error while unzipping -3 -.zem file has wrong version number. Please check your install -Version got/wanted : 18F0/0100
And notice my ROMS are not zipped and have zem files that came together with LJP1.0RC2.zip (binnaries) file.
Sonic SMS plays ok even with .zem file on SD Card.
The ZEM files I have are:
-ljp-gb.zem 150 kb -ljp-gen.zem 498 kb -ljp-nes.zem 143 kb -ljp-ngp.zem 222 kb -ljp-sms.zem 676 kb -ljp-snes.zem 676 kb -ljp-stuff.zem 143 kb -ljp-tg16.zem 31 kb -ljp-vcs.zem 223 kb -ljp-ws.zem 201 kb
Thanks for further replies.

It seems to me like the ZEMs are corrupted. Try to download them again. If the problem persists, I'll double-check the ZIP.
Also, DO NOT set XXX K of memory in UDMH unless everything else has failed. That can lead to BIG problems.
edit: also AFAIK you can Install the 2.0 update from Palm's european website; you can choose the "Spanish" option from it. People report that it has all languages; I'm not sure why Palm is holding it for other countries. Maybe Palm's just stupid as always...

Tinnus: why cant we set "xxx k" in udmh? thats the only way i can get all of your apps to work.
caitoz: for me with all the z______ apps an LJP in order for udmh to work for custom setting (xxx k) you need to copy the app to device memory (i delete it every time to save space and only store it on the HD).

Caitoz, its interesting that you have a ljp-tg16.zem. I don't have one. By chance, did you install RC2 over an older version of LJP? I remember doing this once (with older versions) and it caused me problems. Perhaps you might try removing LJP and all the zem files and reinstalling RC2.

Hi, it's me again to report progresses on trying to play with LJP: -Thanks tinnus on your tip with the palm european website. I have just updated to LD 2.0 now. It DOES HAVE ALL LANGUAGES and I'm using spanish as before. blazer updated to 4.3 (the one that comes with T TX) and versamail to 3.1C -I redownloaded the LJP 1.0 RC2.zip (binnaries) to install the .zem files (thinking the ones i had were corrupted) -I erased the .zem files from the SD Card and used LifeDrive Manager to copy the .zem files to the HD. Just as before the same messages appeared and the same problems occur. Still can play Sonic for SMS and GB Tetris, crashes with NES ROMs and the same messages appeared with GENZ and SNES. -By the way, I installed one GENZ ROM zipped... sonic1.zip and try to run it on LJP. Same messages appeared Will you double check the files? please post them here.

jackiemac... No, I did a fresh install of LJP 1.0 RC2.... and checked the .zip just a few seconds ago and yes, the .zip file has the ljp-tg16.zem file. I am posting the LJP 1.0 RC2 zip file on my webpage so you or Tinnus or anybody can check the files I installed. pwp.navegante.com.sv/carlosnolasco/LJP-1.0rc2.zipVeggie... I have LJP installed on the program memory, zems on HD and roms on SD Card. UDMH enabled, disabled, set to nothing, set to 7000 Kb doesn't modify any error i have just described.

Haha, sorry, there shouldn't be a TG16 .zem file, that got there by accident. It is the WIP TG16 module, which means, it doesn't work I'll re-package it, WITHOUT TG16. Oops, there's a problem. I atually don't have the old RC2 binaies. Hehe. Does anyone out there have the ORIGINAL ZIP, ie. from the time it got released... until a month ago or so, when the site got deleted and I had to re-package it...? (fast please )

Tinnus: why cant we set "xxx k" in udmh? thats the only way i can get all of your apps to work. I'm not sure, but dmitry says it's dangerous; only use this option if it doesn;t work otherwise (which is your case).

Tinnus, those it mean my binnaries are wrong and therefore i can't play??? PLEASE ANYBODY WITH THE ORIGINAL ZIP, POST IT. Let's help Tinnus on this. Too much he's done with making them in the first place, now let's help him in getting his job back. Tinnus: I'm sorry, what do you mean with xxx k on UDMH... those it actually mean to put three letter "x"?? or to set an specific amount like 6000 Kb for example?? Sorry, new on both UDMH and LJP (and actually I knew of UDMH just after finding LJP when I started looking for palm emulators) Veggie: could you please post what is your current configuration of UDMH please. soft version, programs on UDMH settings, settings of those programs... (of course type a lot about LJP settings). and please let me know what's xxx k! Thanks.

Do you need the Installer or the Standard files were you have to do everything by hand? Well here are both anyways. They are old, I think I got them The first day you released RC2 but the standard package still has the "ljp-tg16.zem" in it, so I don't know if this is useful or not. Download - Normal BinariesDownload - InstallerP.S. For xxx k he means a number like 60000, but only put in numbers like this if leaving it blank "____k" doesn't work. And 65535 is the highest number you can put into UDMH

Thanks mello_newf, I'll re-upload it.
edit: hmm looks like the RC2 ones come from yoyo's site. Weird, they should be working 100%.
Anyway, I'll re-package them without TG16 and upload to mine.

Advances: assuming the .zem files that I got were not the correct version and those mello post were the original ones (Thanxs mello!!!), I install those .zem files on my palm again (without the tg16.zem file). The same error messages appear when I try to play genz or snes and crashes with nes (I now only get the NULL handle error described on my first post). The error messages when trying to play genz or snes are on order separeted by OK buttons: -Error while unzipping -3 -.zem file has wrong version number. Please check your install. -Version got/wanted : 18F0/0100 I feel frustrated that I can't get this working. I don't know what happens. Should I use the PSI Installer instead?

It's weird, because the files seem to work for everyone else. Try the PSI Installer. If it doesn't work, I'll do a special version for you which doesn't check the version of the ZEMs, or something...

That error while unzipping could be coming up because inside your zip file you don't have the proper extension for the ROM. This happened to me some time ago and all I had to do was put the proper extension on the ROM inside the zip archive.
Snes - .smc Nes - .nes Gb - .gb GBC - .gbc Genesis - .smd SMS - .sms
P.S. Delete everything related to LJP and use the PSI Installer that should solve you problem with the .zem having the wrong version.

caitoz, try to place the roms on the hd. also as i mentioned for some reason i noticed that udmh is only actually working w/custom settings is if i go directly to ljp from udmh w/o clicking "home". to do this i open the app then close it, go to udmh, and then hold "home" till the app appears.

Thanks veggie, I'll try it when I'll get UDMH (trial expired) and since I live in El Salvador, getting it using paypal is not possible. Thanks to Tinnus to for testing LJP in a real LD. When you get it, install Ultrasoft MOney, Diagnosaurus (from www.diagnosaurus.com -medical program) and iSilo and open it with a SD Card inserted and some isilo files in the HD (/palm/programs/isilo)... those things guides to a problem: unable to download anything from any website using palm Blazer either to the HD or SD or to the program memory (sometimes only to program memory - it says I don't have enough memory even if I have 40 MB free of ram). When that happens the whole LD becomes unstable and also LJP therefore and the roms are not playable. But please, note not only these programs cause problems, but those are three I've noticed; sometimes multiple programs (as common as ultrasoft money) causes trouble. Tried sonic for genz in a brand new LD and it runs (remember I couldn't get it to work), all of them (sonic 1, 2 and 3). NES i haven't tried, let you know later. Greets! Caitoz

Tinnus, by the way, the PSI installer is EVEN MORE UNSTABLE THAN THE NORMAL BINNARIES.... It doesn't fixes the .zem problem and it REALLY MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO USE (TO USE NOT TO PLAY) LJP. LJP crashes even by pressing the home icon on the tray (the thing is over the buttons and has the B for bluetooth and wifi and other icons)

Please, do not post the same thing twice in two topics, it's unnecessary. It makes stuff confusing, and, anyway, I read every letter in every post in this forum, so not to get worried. If I don't answer something, either I don't know the answer, I know someone else does and so will answer soon, or I'm just not in a good mood (in which case I come back later ).

I was wondering why, when I put 60,000 into udmh, it only shows about 19mb of memory? No matter what I enter, when I put something above 19261, it only shows up as 19261.
|
|

Post by Tinnus on Jan 3, 2006 22:29:25 GMT 1
Well, because you have 19261 free memory. UDMH can't get memory out of nowhere.
;D
