The launcher works fine, but when you launch a rom, the screen goes black. If you press a button then you can hear the games music but you have to reset the TC to exit.

I suppose before the black screen you get the messages with "load pno", "call pno", ... You should have a "Free RAM" message too, after "load pno". How much does it show ?

My results are exactly the same on my C. There is no error message, just a blank screen.

Yes, same here... T|C with the 3.0 update. I can see the list of the games I have on the card, but when I launch one of them, there is a "waterfall" transition effect as the screen goes black and thats it... it stays black I have 12154K of free RAM according to the program GUI (I assume it refers to heap?). Thanks for the effort of porting the emulator from the Zaurus!

Yea. Ive tried this with 3 different ROMs so far.
I have noticed that if i change the core from ASM to C i can get sound however if i change back to ASM i get the standard blank nothing with no sound and frozen up.
Whatever it may be thats probably a good place to start looking

new information:
It seems that the only problem is that the emulator outputs nothing to screen however response can be heard.
Meaning. Pressing up makes a bleep like you pressed up in the game (This was tested using Lufia: Fortress of Doom and yes i legally own the original)
So i hope this helps. ive tried multiple video combinations to come up with some answer as to why there is no video however all combination have come up fruitless.

i could really use the source code to this thing. maybe i could find out whats wrong

I'll put a new version soon without some fancy stuff done in the launcher. Perhaps it will solve this issue. The sourcecode will be published as soon as the ljp isn't beta anymore (in a few releases I hope....). Moreover I need to clear sourcecode from all the dirty hacks I've done in the CW 9.3 libs (mainly pnoloader & paceinterface), so that it can compile on another computer than mine

hrm.. a new release eh.
Ive been bangin my head against the desk all night trying to figure this thing out.
Ive tried everything from peice mealing together a version out of the prior versions and tried about 50 different roms and complete fresh wipe with no success. It seems that the only real problem is the video. No output to monitor it seems.
another thing ive noticed is that i cannot (though i am not shure) designate my keyboard keys as function keys inside the emulator. like using z, return, and backspace as keys. odd it just sets the values as 00008. along those lines at least.

you were talking about looking in the sourcecode, so I assume you have coding knowledge. I dont know how theses keys (keyboard) are handled in palmos. Currently I'm calling the pos function which return keystate (forgot the name) as a 32bits. Do you know how to handle the keys on keyboard ?

Maybe they just fire an event like a normal grafitti stroke?
...wait, does a grafitti stroke fire an event? Anyway, you're not handling events when emulating so that wouldn't be too good anyway.

It would seem that is the case.
when i press Q it assigns the value 80000000 and does the same if i try to assign D and deletes the value stored in the other button. ive looked for documentation to confirm this

I dont think that they are normal Graffiti events.
I'm using PILOC to write in Greek and when I have it enabled and in "Greek mode" using the keyboard still gives me english characters. It will write in Greek only when I tick the "external keyboard support" in PILOC.
Any idea how external keyboard events are handled? Is there a standard way for them?

Things look much better with the new beta!
GB emulation is working :-) SNES Emulation is working using the C core :-) but it crashes with a fatal alert on the ASM core :-(
Sound is working with everything.
Thanks for the effort!

The new version works, except the aforementioned ASM on SNES, perfectly. No problems at all. Chrono Trigger on my palm is a thing of beauty.

As already mentioned, beta 4 works great on my Tungsten C. It plays all GB/GBC, NES, and SNES (using C) roms.
However, there are two bugs I have discovered
1. After testing 3 or 4 roms going back to the rom launcher crashed my device and required a soft reset.
2. Any GBC games run really slow regardless of the settings. I tried double size, single size, with audio, without audio, etc.

i have noticed that with two tests. The SNES roms are not without their fault either.
After testing 6 different roms i have discovered that pressing any input key causes the game lag. Like say if i press and hold left for my character to go left. the games speed slows down to an unacceptable rate (unless its chrono trigger, finaly fantasy, or other like RPGs). Games tested are SOM, SOE, Super Metroid, SOM2, Contra, and UN Squadron.
Also i cannot designate the Keyboard input keys as function keys for the games.

It emulates GB/GBC and NES perfect, SNES is a little slow since I'm using the C Core (ASM Crashes), but after some time playing with any module the T|C shuts off and I have to reset it, I have discovered that it has something to do with the Palm’s standby time because it does not happen when It is on its cradle and since I configured it to do not enter standby while on its cradle I assume that is the problem. Keep up the good work

i played mine for quite a while. No issue likes yours. so im pretty shure thats an isolated incident.
however the ASM/C core issue could be the right track. How to fix it i dunno.
I really question most of the causes of these problems. can the Palm Tungsten C really vary that much
/* Edit */
Also. Screen size does not fill the screen regardless of setting. i have noticed no real change in screen size. is it possible im wondering to change the resolution

Yeah, mine switched off as well after a few minutes of playing...
But I cant remember if I had pressed any buttons in the last couple of minutes before switching off... If not then its the power off feature. If yes then there is a problem :-p
I also noticed the lag during a keypress... as I remember correctly, another emulator, Frodo a C64 one, had the same problem on the T|C but it was fixed in a later version... Maybe a look at its the source code is a good idea? It's hosted in SourceForge.

Thanks for letting me play the last 2d zelda game (Snes) on my T|C :> with the c core, the speed is still fine (without overclocking) Thanks again!
Edit: Hmm. it's a pity that it keeps on crashing (yes, on c core) after a few mins (not power of, a real crash)... I'll try to free up some more mem (already have 17.6mb free) and maybe try the udmh program.
sorry for that , it was a bad rom, i can play it with a little frameskipping (auto), but it works fine thanks!

Okay, after playing with this a bit more, I can say something more constructive than gushy praise. Heh.
I did have a few crashes on SNES roms, though there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them. Sometimes, it would run fine for over an hour, and other times I'd get a crash after a few minutes.
Also, across the board, after going to the menu while a game is running, it is sometimes impossible to return to the game. A reset is the only way out. This isn't all the time, but it's enough that saving and loading from the menu are precarious.
That's my input for now... keep up the good work.

I had the same problem with the auto off error.. but i remembered an old program called 'console', you can set your auto-off time to 3hours if you want, maybe that works untill the new release! And it's freeware! I put it on my site, cause it's so old i cant even find in on palmgear orso... zelda.snempaa.nl/console.prcEdit: It works in a strange way, my device still powers off after a couple of minutes, but I can also turn it on again with the power button and continue my game.... on the other hand, when I try to turn in off during a game, this is still impossible on my T|C (with lightspeed at 600mhz my palm runs zelda with exact rendering at full speed (without sound)! I like it;) with sound i think it skips it skips 3 frames) (with the c core ofcourse) - I wish I didn't bought Firestorm-GbaZ, LJP is for free, faster, and the gba support is quite bad in Firestorm (almost every game is at <50% @ 600mhz, and most of 'm crash when started, like the zelda's)

I found a trick to deactive the auto-off feature in this page ze-palm.ifrance.com/ze-palm/en/TipsTricks.htm- Create a new Memo
- Draw this special symbol
- Write a point
- Write a 3
The text below will be inserted in the memo : [No Auto-Off] To remove it, set again in "Prefs" a new value Edit: My T|C still powers off but only with the LJP, the only way I´ve managed to play is using a hotsync charge cable

Out of programming curiosity, any idea what exactly was the problem with the display?

the problem was with the transition (You know when the thing would do the slide out, fade out, or wipe screen kinda effect). It seems that it wouldnt redraw the screen after doing so. thats my best guess. On other words. Ive never had the time power off crash. i also use a program www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/powernet.shtmlIm always connected to a wireless network. nice little program to do some information dumps www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/infosystem2.shtmlInfoSystem 2 1/23/05 16:10:54 HotSync : User Name : Vitreal Serial number : xXxxxxxX Last sync. statut : Sync completed normally. few more things.
The sound is a little quite. Maybe if there was a way to increase the limit for the sound so you can up its audible quality just a we bit.
i havnt said good job to ya either Yoyo. but i really dont think you need anymore Good Jobs. its a given. its great work you got going. Appreciation is persistence.
and to think. you arent making us pay for it either.
