I had this in another unrelated thread, so I thought I'd od the right thing and open a thread for it as I'm sure I'm not the only person who's come across this.
For SNES games, I can save within the game and reload it later. Works on Mario All-Stars, Bust-A-Move, etc. But on Genesis games, specifically NHL94, the in-game backup won't work. Can't save a playoff and continue later. Saving a state doesn't help here cause the game still needs to have saved in itself in order to allow you to continue.
Any help or similar experiences with Genesis NHL94?

Try Sonic 3 and tell me if it saves. Also, I'm saying it again, try the game in Genesis Plus for the PC and tell me if it works or not.

Hey, Thanks for the reply. I can play these games perfectly in Gens. Is Genesis Plus going to be any different? I'll try Sonic on my TX anyway just to see if the results are any different. I'm sorry to keep harping on this, but it seems weird to me that Super Mario All-Stars for example, which is a very memory intensive ROM saves fine, but NHL94 which only has playoffs and not a full season doesn't wanna save at all.

Genesis Plus is basicly the same emulator you're running in LJP... Gens is a completely different codebase, so it'll behave differently when emulating any game. None of this stuff is using cycle exact emulation; if it was, it'd be too slow to be playable on a Palm.
Super Mario All-Stars uses the snes9x emulation core. LJP is a front end launcher for a bunch of emulators, not some magical software that runs software for various consoles and handhelds cycle-exact on a Palm.

Mario and Sonic/NHL have nothing to do with each other's code: Mario is SNES and NHL is Genesis (different emulators), so please try both Sonic 3 on the palm and NHL on Genesis Plus.

Ok, here's the results... NHL94 was not able to recognize the battery backup on Genesis Plus. Skipped over the user records option and wouldn't continue a playoff.
Sonic 3 did seem to work, giving the option to reload from a saved point within the game's "Battery backup".
So, is NHL94 simply not able to do this on the Palm TX?

It's simply not able to do this on Genesis Plus (PC version or LJP version). Tinnus, I'm in constant contact with the Mac developer; you might want to contact the PC developer about this here. You might also want to get him to link to you under the "Other Platforms" section Oh, and which version of the source are you basing the ljp module off of? The official source is at version 1.2.6 now.

I'm not sure which version it is, I just know that a newer version wouldn't work It was hacked too much to work the way it does now. tinpanalley: It looks like NHL uses some kind of undocumented special type of SRAM or something. Knowing EA, this may well be the case.
