I attahced it. I was thinking the menu is like a menu (duh), the wrench is per game settings, when you tap it or press the direction of it, it slides to the middle and the others slide to make room. The wrench shows the same screen, but when you tap the game it shows you a settings screen instead of launching it. New: 320x320 Old:

i like it.. cept the size wouldnt work on a 320x320 palm device.. it looks like its more for a widescreen like a PSP.

I agree... with a 320x320 screen or 320x480, it's not going to work... so this means Tinnus would have to make a launcher that supports all kinds of screen resolutions It does look nice though, but, I still perfer having the list organized by the emulators, NES, SNES, GB, GENZ etc instead of what you have on this pic, a mixed list... One other thing... I think the 3 buttons on the bottom is too big compare to the game list (they take away too much space on the whole screen), how about making those 3 buttons' icons smaller? because for me, I'd like to see more games on the list in each page, and having big buttons like those, that means I'll have to scroll/page up/down quite often, making it less user-friendly in a way.

Well, would you really put more work into the GUI than the emulation or stability?

Well, would you really put more work into the GUI than the emulation or stability? Not sure who you're asking, are you asking icefire? and if you're asking me, I am no programmer, but obviously stability comes first, then the GUI, why?

But...someone with no emulation programming experience could throw a launcher together with just a little bit of generic programming ability. Heck I could probably do it if I had a Palm Dev environment set up.
Hmmm....

It would be good enough is someone could write a generic one with C/C++ and SDL

Well in LJP the launcher part looks already bigger and more complex than some emulation modules

ya.. palm programing is soooo d**n confusing to me. I just dont get it yet. I can write an app, with a pulldown menu and a button that resets the device and thats about it. the whole window drawing thing is prolly the most confusing part.. why couldnt they just do it like curses or something ah well.. someday itll just click I guess

New version of my launcher possibility mockup: smaller icons, a scrollbar (not done), tabs for systems (I think that would rock in LJP btw), and a bigger rom listing area. How do you like it? Edit: The combined sections for roms are because i was too lazy to resize the tab image in all of the places.

Tabs wouldn't be the best solution for consoles however, as you wouldn't be able to easily track the consoles currently loaded: Metaview has the current launcher only display consoles the user is actually using (has ROMs for). This is more useful in my view. Some way to merge the two would be nice too... carousel maybe (like picsel browser)?

The tabs could dissepear if the console has no roms, and i only mixed snes and nes because i was too lazy to make another tab.

I really like this kind of launcher, changing background as an option would be neat..

Honestly if you are too lazy to make the image of the launcher how do you expect someone to spend a couple of months programming the launcher? Put some effort in and you will have a better chance of it being programmed.

Your launcher does look good btw. Make it really slick and I might pitch in and help code it. ;D

I meant the alpha transparency and the non-standard list... i really don't know but i don't see alpha trans that much.

You don't have to program the alpha transparency if the BG is static, but then, if so, it's just some math
