Im just wondering if it would be possible to have LJP allow calls/text/alerts etc to come through while playing a game in LJP?
Is it just impossible or too hard?
Sometimes I get carried away playing and when I stop playing i see I have missed calls etc.
Just wondering what is everyones take on this not complaining or anything. ;D

It would be a LOT slower. (go try out guinea pig [genesis emulator for palm os], I don't think that it stops the OS calls) Neither does Duke3D. Maybe let them through JUST for nes?

Actually, making it a toggle option would be nice It would allow us to take in-game screenshots too.

I've noticed that LJP often crashes if I've recieved too many calls or text messages while playing (unverifiable, but I'm assuming they caused it). All those calls and messages create a backlog in memory that manifests as soon as you stop playing, but if you're playing SNES and don't have much memory free after loading the ROM, it doesn't take many messages to use up all available memory and cause a crash.
I only noticed this after each time it crashed I would find that I was missing several messages (and/or phone calls) from my log that my wife had sent me while I was playing.

I usually get a missed call/text etc screen for a aplit second then followed by a message in ljp saying Do you wish to exit the Emulater with two buttons. One is yes and the other is no. If I hit yes it does nothing and i have to tap the screen to get the menu up and then exit to launcher.
I remember previous versions of LJP making my Treos crash when a call was misse while playing but not on the latest ones. When it did happen it was when you would stop playing a game and tried to go back to ljp.

LJP let some events go through from time to time during the emulation and if you are in pause or menu mode. Getting a phone call isn't only tight to events, one could act on a notification too. I added the panic exit to be triggered in future if a phone call comes in. Seems to be time to add some code for it...

Maybe an option:
Panic Exit slot: Quick Slot 1 Slot 2 etc?

could we at least have a toggle for nes and gameboy? I really do not want to miss calls.
could it maybe even be possible to alert the player like a small falsing phone icon on the top right so the player can choose to idnore it or use the panic button to go to the call or text.

How about pause the game and put up one of those yoyo bubble dialogs?

I don't know. They just seem to be in anything that yoyofr made/worked on :-) Also most of MetaView's ports/emulators too.

Maybe an option: Panic Exit slot: Quick Slot 1 Slot 2 etc? then my quicksave behavior changes.. quicksave shouldnt be used for this concept. the program should just pause and resume when your done. im my opinion

I don't think that's possible.
How about a Cell Phone slot, that is loaded after the call? Or just a dialog:
Accept Call Accept call (don't save) Ignore Call

I like my/your/everyones/tinnus's idea: a call save state. I don't know about speed though.

It all sounds good. I mean for now all I do is pause the game every once in a while to see if there is a missed call. Kinda sucks cause every time I forget to do this and get involved in whatever I'm playing is when I miss important phone calls. It would definately be nice and appreciated I know by all the Treo/Centro users as I know this has always been a bit of concern to have a way for phone calls to come through while playing. Whether it be a popup window/blinking cursor/or quick pause of game and swap to the answer ignore phone screen. (you add phoneswitch app to that and after the call youd be back in LJP with little effort)

I have a palm centro and i get every call while playing LJP.... mainly i use GB or GBC so i don't know if SNES does the same for me. But just thought i'd throw my two cents in...
Oh and everytime i hit the center screen to go to menu my texts show up, and i just hit ok, then hit where the back button should be on the menu screen (it all goes blank after i get texts), then i go back to the game, then back to the menu, save, then exit and read my texts...
sorry that was probably annoying and long... but just thought i'd throw that in here... =]

Ok just to get this request straight.
While "playing a game" no calls/mms come through.
When your in the LJP main screen yes you get an alert, but while actually playing a game you get no notification. Which can be a problem if your playing a game for 15-30 minutes while someones calling you and cant get through.

Yesterday I received a call right when i exited playing a game and picked up the call. LJP displayed "would you like to extit emulator" I tapped yes but it stayed frozen on that screen while I was on a call. I wasnt able to exit LJP at all to look up a contact etc.
This was on a 700p.

I'm now in the state where the call comes through _if_ one presses one of the extra Treo keys. The event creation for the standard HW buttons (these are the 5-way, the application keys and the red power key) is disabled, enabling it makes the emulation unplayable. At least it's better than nothing, but I don't recognize the incoming call inside the emulation yet. Which means, the 5-way and the red key doesn't work. You can pick up the call with the green key but the game continues without sound (the OS routes the call to the speaker) and you are able to quit LJP. then you can end the call with the red key too. Not very handy, seems I need to dig more.

I hope I'm not being a nuisance by posting feature requests all the time :/ metaview: have you considered making a "panic-save" slot? I think it'd be pretty nifty. I remember once before I nearly had a heart attack because I panic-saved over my existing quick save, and I hadn't saved in-game for a looong time! Luckily, I backed up my card not too long before that. *Phew* Oh yes, and thank you for fixing the selection text from before! I appreciate it
