I know nothing about programming, but would it be possible to program a emulator that runs a specific game? In example, an emulator that runs metal gear soloid for the psp and nothing else, and is built just to read that specific data, so that it runs at full speed(or close)?

Are you thinking of a "port" of a game? (ie: ZQuake, ZDoom, etc)

More like the way bleem for the dreamcast was done. A single disc would play only one game, because the emu on the disk was programmed to only play that game, but play it perfectly. Just kind of a way to get some of the more wanted psone and n64 titles to the psp.

Would take some work, but it's possible... you'd have to really like that game, or someone wanting to pay for it (like Bleem) though

So what your saying, is it would be just as difficult to make a single game emulator, so you might as well make a fully fledged one that trys to play all games?

He say you have to be really dedicated to the game to spend a lot of time optimizing it only for fun without getting bored of coding such an emulator. And you will need a great community supporting this game to give you the will to finish and optimize it to the end. Its hard enough to work on a multiple game/machines emulator and keep the mood of continuing and update it. I guess it would be very hard to work such a long time on a single game. Doable, but hard (look TTD, not really an emulator but Fraggler works since very long on it, i guess the community helps a lot).

Ahh, i see.I guess it would have to be a game loved by many people, which would make mgs pretty useless with portable ops coming. FF7 or the Ocarina of Time would probably be more supported, but its not like i can code anyway, so oh well. just a thought

All PSX games can be run fullspeed emulated in the PSP. That's a technical fact...
Having the skills is a completely different thing though.

I heard(cant remember where) that psp games are programmed very similiar to psone games, so yeah. Im sure it will be much time before anyone will take on that challenge though. Lets hope sonys psone emu is cracked, so i can enjoy star ocean the second story in a great new portable glory.

Yeah well that allegation is wrong. They aren't programmed very likely, they just use the same family of CPUs. WHich only helps with the emulator programmer writing some code to translate the CPU code, hehe. ALso, the PSP has *some* stuff that specifically help emulate other specific parts of the PS1--helps, but it's not like they're similar. It's like having a good GFX card in your PC helps emulate a PS2. Not that the hardware is too similar
