This is my first real time in a forum, and I found this website while browsing the web. I have a few questions, and I'm hoping to find some help here...
I've heard that you could emulate SNES games on a PSP, and that seems to be what this site is geared towards, at least in part. But I was wondering, what's the catch? Could I just go out, buy a PSP, and download the emulator onto it and start playing?

About firmware (OS / "system software") versions.
If you get a 1.5, all's good and you can run non-official programs ("homebrew"). If you get a >1.5 and <=2.71, you can downgrade back to 1.5 If you get a >2.71 and <=3.03 you can downgrade back to 1.5 using an old (exploit not patched) version of the GTA:LCS UMD (hard to get at stores, easier to find a friend who has it). If you get a 3.03, you're screwed.
There's also something called "custom firmware"--that's like the latest Sony official firmware (usually). That gives you all of the official firmware + the 1.5 ability of running homebrew. With the 3.x custom firmwares you can also convert any PS1 game CD image to a format runnable in the PSP firmware directly. These are done by a guy called Dark_AleX and the current one is called 3.40 OE (has the functionality of the 3.40 FW, and he calls them OE, that stands for "Open Edition").

That would be sweet if we could convert the games for the zodiac. Does it use the 3d accelerator of the PSP though?

Uh, I think he was actually referring to the PS1 games:

Ah, no, makes absolutely no sense thinking that the games could be converted for Zodiac just because they are convert-able for the PSP.
The PSP firmware, starting from the 3.xx versions, has a PS1 emulator built-in. "Converting" the games just means packing the CD image in a format that it recognizes.

hello. long time no post. i had my palm tx in repair on my service plan for the past couple months, they couldnt fic it, and the model is discontinued in the store. so i got store credit and bought a psp . the firmware is 3.5. i also got twisted metal head on. apperently there is now a 3.5 firmware downgrader (http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/news/3.50-downgrader-faqs.html). but it involves the game lumines. i dont have the game and dont kno where/what version i need to get. also as of my understanding this downgrader downgrades to version 1.5 from which i can then load custom firmware (3.4 oe i believe). what are the advantages of this downgrade/upgrade and how can i do it? as of my understanding i will b able to play psp .iso images as well as psx ones? and emulators and homebrew obviously. any help would be appreciated thank you. and does anyone know of a helpful psp community as welcoming and helpful as this one was with my palm? i need to also figure out where to get the newest homebrew
