It has come to my attention that lately there have been a lot of simple questions with simple answers, from as far as installation goes to deleting .ini files. Unfortunately these next 3 months are going to be busier than a college student's for me, (a lot busier) being that my dad is deployed and with my job, school, etc...
So in the chance that I'm not going to be able to visit the forum a lot to answer questions, I'll post a thread on basic troubleshooting.
Steps to follow: (installation)
In the occasion that you cannot watch LJP for Dummies, this little guide might help you out.
1: Grab a copy of the latest LJP build, currently LJPwii4 (found on page 4 or 5 in the wiimote thread)
2: Once it is finished downloading, right click it and hit "extract" (in Windows, on a mac just double click the zip file and it will automatically extract)
3: Put your memory card into the card reader for your computer (you WILL need something to read cards in one way or form in order to install LJP)
4: Open your memory card to see its contents (note: do NOT physically open the plastic casing of your memory card, you will break it. When I say to open the card I mean to double click its icon on your computer)
5: Double Click the file named "Palm" on your memory card. (Whaat? It's not there? Can you use your card with your phone? If you can, then just make a new folder called "Palm" in the root of your memory card, if you cannot, then backup your data from the card, format the card with your Palm, and copy your files back, your card should have the proper folders in it now, but if not, just make them)
6: After opening the Palm folder, you should see a launcher folder, and for many people, a "Programs" folder. The folder we will be needing is the Programs folder, so once again, if it's not there, then make it.
7: Put your memory card back in your palm, and hotsync the file LJP.prc over to your Palm, and while you're at it, you may want to grab the program known as "Filez", which is a very useful file manager for Palm OS. Grab it from here: www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/filez.shtml
8: Now that you have installed LJP and Filez, run LJP (make sure your card is in the slot), it will come up with an error, but this is normal, get a good look at LJP, and those beautiful icons in the bottom left corner (mmm mmm good)
9: Hit the home button on your device, and remove your card
10: Put the card back into your computer, and go back to the LJP folder that you unzipped earlier
11: Open your memory card, and go to the /palm/programs folder. You should see a folder named "LJP", but if it isn't there just make it.
12: Copy and paste all of the .zem files over to the LJP folder on your card, easy as pie, right?
13: In your LJP folder, there should be several folders with names like SNES, nes, gg, gens, tg16, ngp, etc... If they are not there, then make them. Inside all of those folders there will be two more folders, one titled saves, and the other titled roms. If they are not there, then as usual, create them.
14: That's it! If you were looking for something more difficult, you've come to the wrong place! All you need to do now is get some ROMS! And for those, I've heard that google might .....
General troubleshooting:
In many cases, the problems occurring may be due to a bad LJP.ini file located in your LJP folder on your memory card, delete it, and see if LJP is acting properly.
If your problems are still occurring, make sure it isn't just the setting within LJP, (maybe you need to reassign paths?)
If worse comes to worst, backup your data, and format your memory card. check to see if everything works, and then replace your data, and do a complete re-install of LJP, while still keeping your roms of course.
As I have more time, I will update this page, otherwise feel free to ask simple questions here, and have fun LJPing!
