since you can still play homebrew on a 2.60 psp with GTA in then why don't people do it? i always read about people talking about upgrading to 2.60 and dreading it. why don't they just buy gta and use homebrew that way? am i missing something?

The kernel mode stuff from 1.0 and 1.5 (using the Media Engine, etc). Also, the obvious, you need GTA, hehe.

BTW it's more easy to run homebrew in 1.50fw... also when you are running apps in 2.60 you always have to use extra memory to run code that permits to run homebrew... decreasing compatibility...

1.0-1.52 have kernal mode and user mode. (1.51 and 1.52 have kernal mode but disallow applications to run) 2.0 has vhs mode (i know sounds like a video tape) and user mode. 2.01+ dont have kernal mode. Its not that its there and you cant access it. It doesnt exist on the 2.01+
Now then, all psp games run in user mode using some extremely stict user commands to start the umd. (those commands require flash0 acces, and are often confused for kernal commands.) New commands were added to user mode so kernal could be removed without losing umd game load compatibility.
With that out of the way, you'll never ever run kernal mode on 2.01+ because its simply not there.
Now then with all that out of the way. 1.5 has kernal mode AND usermode, giving you the best possibilities for homebrewn. as you get access to a whole array of kernal commands.
2.01+ doesnt have that nifty set of commands to play with so you're very limited, and only to non-protected user commands.
Now, why doesnt all the 1.5'ers upgrade? Well that kinda answers it. but they get a few bonuses. they dont need gta, or wait that 30 seconds for it to start up.
When you get a new homebrewn or something, that 30seconds feels like an eternity. And they get huge compatability ^_^ So thats why.
