If you have a device with lot of dynamic memory and UDMH you might like to try my latest port: Hexen2!!!! As usually you will need the pak files from the original game. Read my website for installation instructions: www.metaviewsoft.de/en/Software/PalmOS/Freeware/Other/index.htmlKnown bugs are (among others): Sound is not working, Music neither. Hexen 2 is a Quake 1 engine and therefore it was quite fast to do, except from two bugs which drived me mad... One of it was even in the original port I've made this port of. But this port shows the problematic we will run into when one would try to port Quake 2: Memory. ZHexen2 needs around 14 MB dynamic memory. Something you will probably only get on a T3, TC or the Zodiac in conection with UDMH. I believe it's impossible to run it on a TX or even a T5. This devices doesn't even have so much real memory free to use. Prove me wrong and I'll invite you to a cookie :-) As far as I know Palm OS is the only known mobile OS, which does have an Hexen 2 port yet :-) Grab your copy from www.metaviewsoft.de/en/Software/PalmOS/Freeware/Other/index.htmlEnjoy Henk

It does not work on my TX, even after a hard reset with no hotsync behind Its great anyway for those who have a T3 or a zodiac

You didn't mention Zire72, but it does load and work on my device. The only problem is that it v-e-r-y c-h-o-p-p-y. I guess I don't have the CPU to run it fast enough.
It does look impressive otherwise though. And even the sound works, only very choppy and lots of errors regarding .wav files.
You are amazing metaview.

You also didn't mention the Treo700p, which has loads of dynamic RAM. I'll have to scrounge around for my copy of Hexen 2 though, haven't loaded that for years. I'll let you know if it works ASAP.

Zire 72: Ok, have you tried to alter the videomode? Might look terrible and small, but just to know if it runs faster then.
Treo 700p: That would be very interesting. I will also try a Treo 650, which might be able to run it.
Angel: You might try a TX with just Uncache and UDMH loaded to get the most of free memory you can get on the device.

Re: Zire72. My mistake.
I have my whole system underclocked with Warpspeed and forgot to customize the zHexen2 settings. I set zHexen2 back to original system speed and it is now nearly completely smooth. Just a tiny bit of choppiness. Sound isn't great though so I turned it off.
Good job.

Works on the 700p no problem. I am running UDMH and PXA Clocker, and I had to turn sound of because it was extremely glitchy, but perfectly playable.
Note: Don't go to video modes in the in-game options menu (duh) it'll reset your device.
Saving isn't implimented yet? It gave me an error message the first time and then crashed the second time I tried (so I could write down the exact message).

I've updated Hexen2: games can now be saved and loaded and in-game settings are saved too. Enjoy...

Is there a luck about memory improvement or its still a no-no on tx ?

Nope, unfortunately I don't even have a good idea how to get it running on a TX or Treo (not to speak of a T5 or TE2). The whole amount of memory the game needs for the cached files (textures, map etc.) is bigger than the amount of free real RAM on this devices. :-(

I guess making a swap on the storage memory or sd card would be too slow and unplayable There is noway to reduce this cached files to force the game to load them when it need and replace some already in memory ? a bit like windows who cache the programs who are not used on the disk to free more ram ? Its only thought, because i dont know how far you have the hand on the core functionnality...

Video Mode works now (caused reset before). I was able to change it 320x320 for full screen. It looks really good now. Also setting DO save, which is great. I no longer have to set brightness every time.

I've made an update which fixed game state loading and entering a new level: 1.2 Now I've also got bots (chronobots again) running but also found a crash when entering water. I will fix this and then release 1.3. After this I will try to avoid UDMH on Zod and T3 and maybe, maybe I will get it running on a TX too.

Would it be possible to get it to run on the TX by extracting the .pak files, so then it only loads the files it needs into memory?

I don't know, I have to evaluate what it is precaching and why. When extracting the .pak files I might need to change some loading stuff or maybe not. I will check it, thx.
Btw: version 1.3 is there and now bots are possible and the water crash is gone. But you will not see the water level, as it misses some drawing functions which only exist as i386 ASM files.

Ok, I've added sound and music (midi) and also enabled rumbling on a Zodiac (even if the Zod is too slow for the game). It should also work on the Treo 700p.

Any error message or just a fatal exception and a reboot? Which settings? Where does it crash? At the beginning or when adding a bot? Which level did you play?

nothing, just fatal exeption, settings sound and in mp ramdon class but i now see one of the bugs, you never go to open/close the screen when it is loading or when it already launch

has anyone been able to get hexen2 running on a tx or any other nvfs device (even if its unplayably slow)? btw thanks metaview for yet another great port. keep making the impossible possible . btw if it cant currently run on nvfs devices is there anything you can do in the future to change this? or have you reached the absolute hardware limitation? anyway thnx again and its great to see this software anyway. btw has any1 tried and/or is trying to port the build engine and/or opengl libraries? any of these would allow a LOT more freedom of choice for users.

I ported Vincent, that means I have OpenGL|ES (NOT OpenGL).
If anyone wants it, just ask me.
