Has anyone ever tried to port Nethack to Palm? It seems straightforward enough but all the information I could find about people's prior attempts were with old versions of the PalmOS and its inherent restrictions made the project die. I don't see any reason why Nethack (or Vulture's Eye for that matter) couldn't be ported to PalmOS on a modern device.

Hmm...the nethack port only supports zodiac. I tried running it on my Treo and got an out of memory error, then it froze. Let me try playing around with UDMH to see if it makes a difference.
The roguelike games link you provided I had alrady tried. They're all very old and have issues with modern Palm OS button arrangements.

Yeah...Nethack's a no-go currently. I get an error (info) "MemPtrNew says: out of memory! (131072 bytes requested)"
That's both with and without UDMH enabled and configured for this program.
BTW I'm using my Treo 755 to test this.

I used to have one that you could change the buttons to whatever you wanted. I got rid of it because I wanted to test Shadow Warrior that Metaview had just ported.

A big thanks to Metaview for taking a quick look at the source. Unfortunately he couldn't get anything to compile quickly or easily, so I've done some more poking around. In case it hasn't been linked to yet, here's the official Palm Nethack port page: Sourceforge linkbut it hasn't been updated in a few years and it looks like you might need to join the Yahoo group to get access to the SVN and source? I found a bunch of Russians were working on porting it as well, but I'm having a hard time making sense of what they did. If anyone speaks Russian or can understand the programming terminology better than me here's a google translated version: Russian Porting Project
