I just installed the zdoomz, in my sd card, along with the timidity files (i tried both versions) and also tried doom shareware, doom2 and ultimate doom wads... when right after starting music blah blah... a fatal exception appears.
sometimes i can hear a repeating sound on the background of the error msg.
tried both hires and hires+
yoyofr im currently online and will be for a couple of hours if you wish to debug through me =P

I'm not at home now, so I cannot debug. But :
1/ when you say you tried in hires & hires+, do you mean by changing the 'fullscreen' checkbox in video form ? 2/ how much free memory do you have ? the music data are loaded in your internal memory 3/ try with udmh 4/ try hexen and tell me if it does work/doesn't. 5/ try deleting the timidity subfolder (ie patches/ or eawpats12/), just let the timidity.cfg file in the /PALM/Programs/Timidity folder

I have the exact same problem (with ZDoomZ and Quake) on the T3. I have followed the steps exactly and have everything where it should be. I evcen did a hard reset just to make sure there was nothing else causing the problem (i tend to throw tons of crap on my t3 and try everything!) - so that is not the problem.
The T3 has 10 MB of heap - so there should be no need of UDMH. I have 'no DAA' checked ( not sure if it even looks at this on non-zod models but i figured i should be safe), i have tried fullscreen / non-fullscreen. I have 25 mb free.
BTW - i got Doom running on my t1 - great framerate - using udmh. it only ran once and then crashed but required a hard reset to reclaim the mem taken by udmh

Sorry - The Tungsten T3 has 12mb of heap, so it really shouldn't be an issue.

Well, I've been struggling to get ZDoomz to work on my T3 all day. I've arrived at the point where the music works and I hear the game playing in the background. I can even run around, shoot the gun, and use the menu to exit. The problem is that the display gets stuck displaying a white background with the status bar noting "starting music... please wait", which I figure would be the last thing displayed before you'd be dropped in the game. It seems to me that somehow the display isn't getting updated. Sometimes, when I exit ZDoomz through the ingame menu, I see the last frame of the game show up on screen as it should.
How I got to this point: - I found that the screen must be in landscape (rotated), regardless of whether you're using 320x320 or 480x320. - I've also found that UDMS doesn't help in this situation. - Furthermore, Hexen has the same problem, except that the background is black, not white. - Also, there are just random fatal errors when trying to start the game that I just have to keep trying to get the thing to work. I have a hunch that after the Palm soft-resets, one needs to pop the SD card in and out once before starting up the program again.
Ahhh, help me! Must have Doom!

hmmm... that's weird... I know that T3 has trouble with landscape mode, that's why I'm using a special 'software rotated' render. So the T3 should be in 320x480 (portrait) mode. Did you tried to run doom in portrait mode ? (without rotating the display) ?

Same for me... for all the progs i.e.: Doom, doom2, plutonia, tnt and hexen... the white screen of death

Hey Yoyo... When you start the game in portrait mode and you hit the "Launch" button, it shows the messages. After the "starting music... please wait" message pops, the program crashes.

yep, same here in portrait mode... crashes right after loading patches... same with hexen... its frustrating to hear the music and know that the game is playing in landscape, but no way to see it.. hexen was one of my favorite games, and it would be very cool to see it running on the palm...
T3 has always been a tricky device to get things running on.. with quake I still get the compatibility out of memory error, but I think most devices other than the zodiac are getting that... that is one that I would love to see if it is able to run..

Me too... I'm waiting to see quake running onto my palm... it would be great if it supports the stylus like a pointing device... like daedalus3d.... same for doom and hexen... for me it's the best way to play a fps...

darhorn2 and wantan seem to be at the same place that I reached yoyo. Portrait crashes, landscape has that white (or black in the case of Hexen) screen, and Quake always gets that pop-up out of memory error even if you allocate 15mb with UDMS. Let me also take a second to say that I am amazed with the work you've done on this software and that I am completely grateful for what you've given us so far and what help you can offer us.

Yoyo, I have gotten the T3 to have only sound but i have had some other problems, I can only run the game once. The next run i get a fatal exception. After using zdoom my dynamic memory is too full to run it again untill I do a couple of soft resets.
I was using UDMH to determine how mush dynamic memory is required. out of 11000000 bytes after running only 4000000 was left. I am hoping this will help.
Also the same problem on a zodiac2 but with video, very excellent though. Thanks!!
Good luck and nice job!!
