Is it possible to make a version of ZDoomZ for OS 4 Palm devices? My friend saw me playing ZDoomZ on my Palm and wants to play it, but his Palm has OS 4.13.

In theory it would be possible, but the image would be ugly and it would be VEEEEEEEEERY slow like 1FPS. CPU in OS4 devices: ~16MHz CPU is OS5 devices: ~200MHz see?

OS4 devices were actually up to 33MHZ, the m125 and m130, as well as the m500 and m505 were 33MHZ. And there are some low end OS 5 devices like the T|E (126MHZ) and the T|1 and T|2 (144MHZ.)

Even so, that's a 4x difference. It WOULD be slow. Not to mention some workarounds like no sound and color remapping to a 256 palette.

Not to mention that Palm OS 4.1 has only 250kb of dynamic heap.

Yeah, that too Actually some devices have 800kb or so, like the Zire.

If we could do that, we could probably port Doom3 to Palm OS.

That was already posted at that other thread at ZQuake I think... please do not post the same thing twice.

The T|E was actually downclocked by the company to save battery. There's software to pump it back up to the factory 176, and you can even overclock it to 185 with no problem. I couldn't get zdoomz to work on my T|E; was this why? (I didn't up the proc)

I never got it up to 185, it crashes at any higher than 172 ( screen goes white and requires a soft reset...)

I must be lucky, mine goes up to 192 no problem (anything higher than this hard-resets ;D)

In warpspeed? Anything above 200MHz and it hard resets. The screen controler goes crazy.

Are you sure you're talking Tungsten|E and not E2 or something?
