Hi all! For some reason I am having no luck at all finding a WAD that will run on ZDoomZ... I've been searching and downloading, patching and praying, and still no luck. The closest I've gotten is using the full version WAD I own which comes up as ver 1.09 in the error. I've upgraded DOOM from 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.6 to 1.9 and nothing seems to help DOOM.WAD work. I then spent some time trying shareware DOOM1.WAD files...no go there either. I came across a message where someone else had that problem, and the solution was to try the Metaview version...that didn't help either. Can anyone else that has gotten ZDoomZ to run tell me which .WAD they are using? I'd be happy with the shareware wad...just so I can get the demo working BTW, I am using UDMH on my T5...tried it in auto, as well as 10,000 - 17,000 and that doesn't seem to help. FWIW - I do get some errors when ZDoomZ starts up...what I can read of it says "cannot sys_alloc 9437184 Bytes" then "free ram 17000/16383" then "cannot sys_alloc 8388608 bytes" and it keeps on several more times with the sys_alloc number getting smaller until the game starts. Oh, the Timidity music is working great! That's something I guess But I only hear it for 5 seconds before the demo version error comes up... Thanks everyone! -Greg

It should just continue after it complaines about the wrong demo version.

Hi! Yes, the game does run fine past that point, but I was hoping to get the demo working so I could be a little nostalgic...plus it's a great way to quickly show the game off to fellow DOOMers I know... It sounds like maybe NO ONE is able to run the ZDoomZ demo? Is that true? If so, I'll stop trying to get it to work...if not, what's your secret? -Greg

ZDoomZ demo? ZDoomZ itself is freeware. The WADs--which are actually the games themselves--you can get in the commercial game for example or some free ones in the web.
That "demo is from a different game version" error doesn't make much sense to me--anyway, you should be able to use the main menu and such even if it shows (it used to show to me but never brought any problems).

Hi!
Sorry for the confusion! When I say "ZDoomZ demo" I mean the "demo" that should play from the doom.wad file when you first go into the game.
The Quake demo runs fine in ZQuake, so I'm hoping to be able to get a WAD for ZDoomZ that will have a compatible demo ver...but none of the wads I've tried have a demo version that seems to be compatible with ZdoomZ's ver (110) 109 is as close as I've come.
Like I mentioned before, the game runs fine, but I'd like to "show off" the game by just letting the demo run like I can with ZQuake...
So I'm just curious if anyone else has managed to see the demo run...

If you find a port, which shows the demo from the doom.wad, please report it here. I don't mind to add this functionality to ZDoomZ, but every port I've tried does not show the demo.

I get the same error message when I use ZDoomZ, but as previously mentioned, it has never caused any problem. Just ignore it and you can play the game as normal.
