Found a bug with the skyboxes. I don't know if this is an issue on high-rez devices or just lo-rez so it'd be great to have some confirmation from someone who's running hi-rez.
If you go outside (ie E1M1) the skybox cuts off halfway up from the ground and tiles again from the bottom, showing the bottom half of the skybox above the top half. Walls are not affected by this so I know it's only an issue with the sky textures.
If this is confusing to anyone I can grab a screenshot of it when I get home and have access to my camera.
P.S. why don't we have a bug tracking thread in here like the one for LJP?

I have 2 pdas (Lo & Hi res) and the problem that you're describing is present in both of them. I think it's a problem concerning about texture management... so, if it doesn't implies any problem to gameplay, for me it's just fine.

It's technically not a bug, but a consequence of we making the game run different from what it should. It was made to run at 320x200 hence the sky textures are 200px height. The engine then centers the sky texture and copies it around to "fill the space". More elegant than leaving black, although i think it would make more sense to repeat the last line. Nevertheless, they never imagined the game would run on anything else so...

Ok good enough explanation. Now I have a quick story I have to share. I'm a software tester by trade. In the last version of a major piece of software we put out I found some 8 or so bugs that the developers decided not to fix because they were "as designed" or figured they were inconsequential enough to leave that way. As soon as the software went public we've started getting help desk tickets for, you guessed it, the bugs I found. Everyone's scrambling now trying to get fixes or workarounds for those bugs, while I sit back and chuckle. Now obviously this isn't a show-stopper, I just wanted to bring it to your attention. You will hopefully understand why I have to laugh a little when you tell me a bug is "as designed" though

Hm, is it really a bug? You use the software (ZDoomZ) in a way, it wasn't intended for. You could fix it, when fix the screen size to 320x200, this isn't what anyone would like. You might try to enhance it to also display the sky correctly in any resolution apart from 320x200. But then it needs someone to do it. If someone wants to give it a try, the source is open. I (and I guess Tinnus and yoyofr as well) will not touch it for such a reason... It isn't worth it. Even if I would have to write an email everyday about this issue, fixing it would take much, much more time for sure :-)

Quite the point--it's not 'as designed' by us--it's 'as designed' by iD Software. Ask John Carmack to fix the skybox then. If it was my software and I'd be going to sell it, I'd fix it for sure, but it's not worth it to 'fix' a mere estetic (sp?) bug for a free port. I'd rather have Doom with weird sky than no Doom at all. What's you choice?

My choice: have Doom with weird sky... it also gives the game a more creepy ambient...

Um....sorry I think I may have not stated my intention correctly. I meant that story as a joke...it's just something I was laughing about. I'm fine with leaving it "as is" as long as that's what you've decided, and the reasons you've given are more than adaquate. Sorry, didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.
