if you mean the background picture before launching the emulator (in psp os), you'll have to use a third party tools. check forums on psp sites. if you mean background in filebrowser/menu, then you only have to replace the .bmp file in the install directory with your one, using same dimensions (480x272), format (bmp 8bits/pixels) if it doesn't work you've done something wrong

Thx, i was talking about the one in the Snes9xTYL0.2 directory. Whenver i put a pick in with the same dimensions it never works, and i have tryed 24-bit,256,16, and monochrome bitmap but none work. What is bmp 6bitx/pixels? and how do you format the pic to have that? EDIT: when i put it in 256color bitmap.. its so dark that u cant see anything in the pic, anyone help?

Can I delete that BMP to save space and just have a black background? (Do I really care about 128KB? While I'm waiting for my 2GB stick to come back from RMA and am stuck on this 32MB stick I do)

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what program i could use to make my own custom background. I want to get the exact dimensions you guys are posting on here. I have photoshop and i don't know how to use it that well, but are there any other easy to use programs or not easy to use programs that i could download to make my own custom background.

MS paint makes the correct BMP format images.

it's the most simple format, I don't understand why it doesnt work for you. as craih write, ms paint is fine and is included in windows. if you want to check the format by yourself, a simple right-click/properties on the file should do it. I suspect you're using an image editor which does weird stuff with bmp file format....

yea i checked the properties of the "logo" bmp file that the emulator came with and i made one with paint that's almost identical to it. Do the horizontal resolution and the vertical resolution have to be the same as the "logo" it came with? Because I have everything exactly the same except those two things. The logo has 72 for both and the bmp file i made has 96 for both of them.
I ask because nothing appears at all in the background except the color black. But when i put the logo pic back in, it appears. And just in case you guys did not know i'm dragging the pics outside to my desktop and then erasing it and copying the one i made in its place. What am i doing wrong?

I may have figured it out. All i did was rename my .bmp image to "logo" and i was able to see it in the menu. Only problem was that, i think you can't put a dark color in the pic bacause it will look black. I had a navy blue background and it looked black so i just changed the color white and it looks great nonetheless. It's kinda weird how that was all i needed to do to get the background appear.
I tested it and i'm pretty positive that, that was the problem because i took that same image and named it a different name and it did not work. Then i renamed it to logo again and it was there. One little weird thing though when i go to my game folder on the psp and click on the top right white box to view my files in filmstrip mode in the snes folder, the original logo appears on the folder as little thumbnail. Even though it's not in there anymore. It's nothing big i'm just wondering why is it there if i replaced it with my pic.
