Hi,
Sorry if we make people waiting...
1/ Yoyo worked on the network stuff to have multiplayer.
I didnt test it yet, but it seems to work...
But it is a quite a problem, the network lib seems to be quite buggy. Yoyo spend a lot of time to find a counter measure and now seems to have a basic support for the network.
Still, his code may not be ready for release.
(I am talking for him here, so I wont be affirmative)
2/ Yoyo also included some code to remove synchronisation between the APU and CPU.
This would allow to run the sound emulation on the second cpu core more easily but no time were spend
trying doing it yet.
3/ ThunderZ has been working on a new user interface for a while.(when he is not dying working too much)
4/ I spent may be 10 hours on my side since the last release to look at the mode7 optimization.
I did have some good result, but I am not satisfied yet.
Also the compiler show some strange result depending on my code tuning...
Thats why the code is not released yet also.
Also, yoyo and I spent a lot of weeks in a row on code, check, whatever time it takes to do it...
Allow us also to have a life outside of work !!!
It is the second week I am not touching my PSP anymore and focus on something else.
Also one last word : don't expect HUGE gain in performance on the graphics side for now...
It is most likely that the emu got does his best for now.
Until somebody wants to rewrite the whole CPU emulation part in MIPS assembly. And it is most likely that it is not going to be me.
Implementing a complete new feature like sound over ME or rewriting a network stuff can take 100 hours of work.
Try to find that time after your job, your girlfriend, your free time (yes when you code 50h or more per week for a living, may be you want to do something else also...like enjoy going to theater or a drive outside of town)
Even at 15h spent per week (more than 2 HOURS EVERYDAY on your free time), it would take 8 weeks for a new release.
We will tell to people when we decide to give up or not on TYL, dont worry...
We are still working on it, just that... We just can't spend 100% of our free resource on TYL alone.
Most of the future changes anyway are most likely not going to change the performance but will be more like new features.
I see some people on forums saying that this emu will be perfect once it runs at 60 fps for all games... Well, you can still dream.
Some games are requiring too much CPU power and are not possible to be emulated at full speed over a PSP.
While we may be good coder, we are not magician.
And magic is not something that exist in computer world.
We will try to release a nice and new version within 3 weeks I believe. I need to talk to yoyo about it.
(most likely to occur at mid-oct)
See you.
