Ok, so here it is... I am a total noob at programming. I know only some GW basic and Qbasic stuff. So my question is this... ZSNES and Snes9x have both been around a while. Both have operated on low power machines. My old pent 100 could handle the SNES games like a champ. No bog downs or nothing. What is the cause of the physical limitaions of the PSP in regards to this operation? Is it a result of lack of programming tool for the PSP specifically or does it have to do with the actual limitaions that result from the Physical hardware? In my noob head it seems that the old SNES stuff should be easy to convert and play, but I know that it isn't. Trying to get a grip on the difficulty associated. I do understand that the actual process required of the hardware is difficult because you are telling the hard ware to accept different instructions. Just not clear on what is blocking us currently with the PSP.

Your P100 can not handle even ZSNES at full speed. I have a P233 that can barly handle it. ZSNES is faster becasue it's in ASM and SNES9X is in C. C is portable, ASM isn't.

I know that when I first started to get into emu's was back in 1995 or 96 and around then the powerhouse PC's we have now were not even a pipe dream. Yet we still ran the EMU's on em. I was just curious. I do know that the current ZSNES cannot run on my P100, but the ones release back in the day could.

I was playing with ZSNES back when it was around .4xx and the compatibility was much lower. It still didn't run too well on the P233.
At some point I'm aware that some of the post version 1 releases really dropped the speed down, by by then were were all running more than powerful enough rigs to handle the extra features and wouldn't notice the speed drop.
Oh, and to anwser your main question, the MIPS archetechture has a fairly low IPC. So it takes more cycles to do stuff than say a ARM or X86 CPU would.

LOL, sentences, look where my period is, or if you did see it, than just learn to read a bit better. I said: "When it was around .4xx", not when it was around.
