Okay, so I've played around with my Palm Zire 71 and LJP and have come up with the following results.
UDMH - Status (info)
-----
Total Size: 15,597,296 bytes
Free Space: 11,383,436 bytes
Max Chunk Size: 7,697,296
Update: After freeing up and defraging...
Total Size: 15,597,296 bytes
Free Space: 13,146,392 bytes
Max Chunk Size: 12,129,400 bytes
LJP - Version 0.8
UDMH - Version 2.7
-----
LJP - Emulators Status
-----
***** NES - Full Success, perfect emulation, not much RAM required. Don't notice any memory leaks with the NES.
Update: After freeing up 12 megs I noticed the leak in NES. Leak seems to double exponentially in size every time a game is played until the inevitable reset is required. I just had to do a hard reset and reinstall backup from hotsync. That hasn't happend to me before today.
*** SNES - Only after freeing up 11 megs was I able to play a few titles (albeit very slowly) with no sound. I can't keep up this amount of free space on my PALM so I'm probably going to write off SNES capability on the Zire 71 for now.
Update: After freeing up 12 megs and defrag'ing, I was able to play a few more titles. Most were too slow to be entertaining. Noticed the leak for sure.
Notes
-----
1. The entire collection of NES games fits nicely on a 128 or 256 SD card. However, it takes a good 10 seconds for all the titles to be loaded into the LJP display window. It is not cached so every time you switch a title the 10 second delay can get annoying. If you could sort them into categories the load time would be significantly reduced. I don't even want to think about how long the SNES full collection would take.
2. I'm not sure, but playing Super Mario Bros 2 using the two hard right buttons as A and B seems to not allow full jumping height. Or maybe I'm just remembering being able to jump higher. Are these hard buttons capable of being 'held down'?
3. The SNES controller buttons has a certain layout that games are based on. I'm not confident that most games that use X, Y, L, R would be easily playable even with binding them to the hard buttons (calendar, address, center joystick, power button). I would prefer a combination of buttons to use X, Y ie: hold center button down while pressing A or B to use X or Y. Does that sound like a good idea?
4. Detailed min requirements write up would be great for each emulator. Any volounteers?
5. Obviously the constant crashing is annoying but tolerable. All the great palm apps seem to crash a lot. Murphy's law.
6. Two player action via the IR or WIFI would be awesome, is it possible? I know WIFI is impossible for Zire since the only supported WIFI card is Sandisk without the storage.
7. I just saw a thread subject of Super Scope / NES gun support. That would be awesome and easily extensible to the palm environment. Point where you want to shoot?

Post your feedback and results and hopefully this can be the Zire 71 be all end all thread.
