How do you configure 2 player support?

Sorry for the noob question -- I did a search and nothing came up..at least not with the terms I tried looking for.

My question is in games that have 2 player support and require a second controller, how do you configure that in snes9x? I looked in the menu but I didn't see any option for it, unless I'm just an idiot or missing it.

In games like Super Mario or Donkey Kong Country when you take turns (like if I'm playing with a friend) it wont move when its the second player's turn, which means the second player controller isn't configured. Is there any way to configure snes9x for that or change which player you are?

2 player support will be in the next version of snes 9xtyl

and you will need a second psp to play the games, even in games like mario world where you take turns.

no you won't you will be able to switch to the second controller phoon pie.
