I'm running SNES9xTYL v0.4.2 ME on my psp (firmware 3.71 m33-4) and I'm trying to run Star Ocean with the Dejap translation patch, v1.0.
I'm using zsnes v1.51 for Windows to make sure the ROM runs properly to begin with. SNES9xTYL runs the original japanese version of the ROM just fine, but when I try to use the translation patch I just get a black screen. I'm starting with a clean japanese ROM, it passes the checksum in ZSNES. I have heard that SNES9xTYL has trouble applying patches after loading ROMs so I patched the ROM first with SNEStl. The patched ROM runs fine on ZSNES but I still a black screen on SNES9xTYL on my psp.
Has anyone had any luck running Star Ocean on their psp with SNES9xTYL?

IIRC it works fine if you don't apply the patch to the file but put the ips in the same name as the rom besides it.

some games are fine though, like tales of phantasia dejap. it's something about star ocean or that specific patch, not sure if its fixable. -edit- I've checked and mine works FINE. Fully English. The files are named Star Ocean.zip and Star Ocean.ips So whatever you're doing, try again Probably your rom is not the required filesize, perhaps some tiny corruption due to transfers or whatnot. Try to get another rom of the game.

I was using a rom labeled Star Ocean (J) [!] with the newest dejap patch and I was having this problem. this rom has a modification date of 1996.
I tried another rom that labeled Star Ocean (J) with the patch and it worked perfectly. I also tried patching the IPS (so it didn't have to be patched on the start everytime.) this also worked perfectly. that rom has a modication date of 2002.
