What is your preference for this option ? The default is hardware, but I find that the software option seems to play smoother due to probably more frame rates. But, the picture quality for the hardware option seems to be clearer or sharper. Do you find this to be the case ? I tend to like the software option more because moves are easier to pull off in fighting games.

I like software better, there seem to be fewer bugs/glitches in games. But thats just my opinion.

software mode were indeed faster than hardware mode(at 333mhz,not 222mhz).
I prefer to play in two modes: 1.turn off music & 59 fps limit, and turn on Vsync. So I can get perfect 60fps with no tearing as good as arcade in most games(not kof97 etc...) 2.turn on music & 59 fps limit but Vsync off,so I can also enjoy music but slightly tearing graphic can be noticed when paid attention to(not untolerable)

Actually if you use the new profiler in 0.8, you'll see that the free % is higher in hardware mode usually, which means that hardware mode is faster, even if you can't notice the difference visually. And there should be less hardware rendering bugs in this version, but if you find some, report them !

hardware mode was sometimes 1-2fps slower than software mode at 333mhz,but significant faster than software mode at 222mhz.

Hey, the free% has a meaning only if your fps is around 59fps, which means if it doesn't slow stupidly like this. Anyway, I'll have a closer look at all this later...

Zelurker, I noticed that hardware mode still had some artifacts in version 0.8. You can still see them in Samurai Showdown 4 when you select Hamauro. I did try out NeoGeo CDZ by NJ beta 3 and these aritfacts are gone in his version. Perhaps you can incorporate his Video Hardware changes into you branch.
