I installed Java on my Palm Centro and I have the program to convert the jar files to prc files but when I go to launch the program I install on my phone with hotsync it restarts my phone, does anyone know why this is happening?
I do have the latest version that was put out

Or it could be that the java implimentation for Palm is crap and buggy and unsupported and resets people's phones.
Sorry...it's been a bad day. But Java really isn't worth it for PalmOS.

Any Symbian phone. The new Google Android phones (none are available yet) will also be Java-based.

Java isn't made to be on centro anyway, plus it's really crappy in it's current state for some easy java implementation. I tried for days and days to get a java game working on my centro with the ibm websphere and i NEVER got it to work.

Blazer is the best one for Palm right now. Were you able to get any games working? I still have a chunk of games from my previous LG Fusic that I could enjoy on my centro. Do you mind making a complete tutorial on how to do it? ;D

No samphex.....Picsel Browser is best. Check the last 5 pages of 1src, there is a download link (or pm me . It even WORKS like an iPhone (mostly). Or try NetFront (clie-ripped), or Opera again with 4.1.

Try this one mytreo.net/downloads/ibm-websphere-everyplace-java-virtual-machine,1313.html I really cant remember where I got my copy from but this one should work, Oh and make sure you have it on the phones memory, cause I was trying to run it off a micro sd card, and it wouldnt work but once I put it on the phones memory it worked fine. I just installed all the prc files on the phone, hope this helps.

Nope. Only way to get WiFi working on a Treo or Centro is with the external WiFi sled (and requires a hack job to connect to a centro). It doesn't work concurrently with the existing data connection though. Have to use one or the other.

@coder12: Picsel works GREAT on the zod (w/ codediver). Fastish. NetFront on the zod works good too, but needs UDMH/(free) MHH. Opera doesnt' work on the zod (anymore).

What I want now is GAMES GAMES GAMES! ;D But on topic: there are several browsers that are good in looks but when it comes to speed, blazer is the best(hence the name)

No, check the reviews at TamsPalm -- Blazer is not fast, its SLOW. Like a turtle. A sluggy turtle.
*icefire is going crazy*

The problem with all the other browsers (and with Java in general) is poor OS integration. For instance, no ability to download files or stream media. If I have to exit the browser, launch Blazer, and do it from there, what's the point?
But yeah, Blazer really isn't very fast at all. Plenty of sites I frequent take up to a minute to load in Blazer, even overclocked. Not fun. Here's hoping the next Linux based PalmOS has a much better web browser.

Actually, NetFront can download, as can opera. NetFront actually can stream as well (it is what blazer was chopped off of and mutilated from).
Picsel looks best though.

That was my problem the last time I checked out different browsers (such as opera), but I haven't tried in ages. Maybe new versions of Opera can do it but the old couldn't? Unfortunately my Treo got a broken screen the other day and while it was replaced for a new one (yay insurance - I didn't even have to pay the deductible) as soon as I sync it with my PC to restore my programs it goes into a reset loop. So I'm sitting with a blank factory default Treo for the moment until I can figure out how to get everything back on it without it going crazy.

I sure you already know this, but why dont you try using a program like filestopda, and transfer stuff a little at a time, mabye then you narrow it down to what the problem might be.

Yep, that's the plan, I just haven't had the time to do something like that yet. I was hoping for a quick hotsync-and-go to be back in business again, but no such luck. Even though it's the EXACT SAME DEVICE. Oh well...can't complain too much since it was free I guess.

Another idea would be to use SD card backups (NVbackup comes to mind) because then it is an actual ram reference, where in hotsync you can choose if you want it to be synced or not (DBs)

yeah, unfortunately when the screen cracked it was completely unusable, while I don't have to see the screen to hotsync. Otherwise I would've used resco backup (and yes, I know I should've backed up more recently so it wouldn't have been a problem).

Not sure if anyone wants to revisit this or is up for the challenge, but Sun (now Oracle) has open sources JavaME. It is now available as part of the phoneME projects with two flavors (feature for basic MIDP non-threaded use and advanced - for CDC and threaded use). If anyone is still interested, check out the phoneME site. phoneme.dev.java.net/I tried working some on this previously, but my lack of hard core Palm coding experience prevented me from getting too far. I had some issues along the line with lack of threading, some basic functions (like the stdio related functions), graphics layer concerns, and just a plan lack of console on the palm to test things easily. Along these lines, while reviewing some of the zQuake port code, I noticed some stdfile/oscompat related code that looks like implementations of some of the missing standard c that I thought might be missing at the time. Is there any chance this code is available outside of any of these ports in some other product? Maybe included in prc-tools?
