Hello, it's been a while since I've updated my PSP. The scene is always changing!
I've been using Ruka's version of snes9xTYL, on a Phat with something like 3.9 M33-3 CFW. Anyhow, what is the latest best custom version of snes9xTYL and what is the latest recommended CFW for Phat that supports it? (Still M33?) I read something about a snes9xTYLsmcm but I'm unsure. Help is greatly appreciated!

Oh my bad, seems there was a thread on this recently. Still, the question goes unanswered...
Also, looking to keep it an ME version of course.

For phat I believe Ruka's is the best to date, as it fixes a few things left unfixed from the official version. ChillyWilly's is apparently less performant but runs without 1.5, ideal for the slim. I do not believe firmware version will affect the performance of the emulator, however, as you mentionned, you might be stuck with 3.9 M33 as none of the newer firmwares were ever released with a 1.5 add-on. You could always time-machine though if you want one of those newer firmwares, or use ChillyWilly's.
I myself run Ruka's on a slim. The CFW I use is, I believe, 5.00 HEN or something or other, with time machine boot to the 1.5 hybrid for Snes9xTYL or any other 1.5-dependant apps I want to run.

Thanks exenteth, I thought you would reply. How is Time Machine? I wonder why they can't continue to include the 1.5 kernel in newer CFWs?

Time machine seems to work great, it just takes up a bit of space on your memory stick (for the alternate firmware) Of course your battery will be permanently pandorized if you wish you use it I think the secret of making 1.5 addons left with DarkAlex... I believe his firmwares were the last to release the addons

Hmm... So why does it require a pandora battery?
I'm gonna look deeper into this.

The pandora battery allows the PSP to boot into a "service mode" which people were able to hijack and point to their own code. Time machine makes use of this by pointing it to code that checks what buttons are being pressed down at boot time and redirects the boot procedure to the selected firmware

I created an account just to reply to this thread. Recently, I wanted to play a game that required firmware 5.50+, which meant upgrading my CFW. Of course, that meant hours of researching new CFW, add-ons, and, of course, emulators. So I feel your pain with how quickly the "scene" changes. Anyway, exenteth has apparently been living under a rock for the past year or so. CFW 5.00-M33 has had a 1.50 add-on since October, 2008. So, now let's get this thread back on track with the original question: What's the best version of SNES9X that runs in kernel mode (ME)?

I had not noticed they started doing that! I left my phat behind around 3.90-M33 (before any 1.5 addon was released) and I guess I lost touch with it Either way, my vote still goes to Ruka's build for the reasons mentionned above
