Has anyone used this??? Will it help w/LJP? www.palmpowerups.com/UnCache is a utility that will let you directly determine what applications get Launch code 5. "What is Launch Code 5?" you might ask. It is a launch code that is sent to ALL applications when palm is resetting. "ALL?!?!?" you might ask, "Isn't that too much?" Well...yes, so PalmPowerups fixed it. Pretty much when your palm resets every application is separately launched and told that palm is resetting. Most applications do not much care about this, and do nothing with this, but they still have to be loaded, called, and unloaded, this takes time, and on NVFS device this fragments the DbCache as well. UnCache solves all these problems by letting you select what gets run at reset. In general Alarm, Backup, and hack-like applications need this, or they will not activate automatically. This application can also siginifantly reduce your boot times, and speed up the system in general. So what are you waiting for, go FREE your cache!

Heh... nice ad Anyway, it definitely helps LJP. I've been using it since it was first seeded for testing. Just as a note, you can remove MemUnfragment if you're using UnCache; MemUnfragment is basicly UnCache for Blazer only. UnCache does the same thing for all third party apps. The end result as far as LJP goes, is that if you have an NVFS-based Palm (for example, T|X, LifeDrive, Treo 650), UnCache will allow you to play SNES and Genesis games without resorting to disabling/deleting a bunch of other software from your device. The side-effect is that no functionality associated with any given app will be available until you either add it to UnCache, or manually run the program.

I don't have any problems running LJP if I do a soft reset first. Occasionally I need to do another soft reset if I switch from SNES to Genesis. Will this app prevent me from doing the soft resets? Will I notice any difference? Thanks, Mark

One more quick question. If I am using Powerrun for everything but the Alarm, Backup, and hack-like applications are the other apps since they reside on the SD card still loaded upon reset?

Will this app prevent me from doing the soft resets? Will I notice any difference? Simple answer: It depends. Before using UnCache, I had around 4MB DBCache on boot. After using UnCache, I had around 10MB on boot. I can now flip back and forward between a number of apps and drop into LJP without needing a soft reset; with the 4MB, I needed to disable YAHM, soft reset, and then immediately launch LJP in order to play the more memory intensive games. Eventually I still need to do a soft reset to clean things up, but now I can read something in PalmFiction, watch a movie, listen to some music, check the calendar, and still launch LJP successfully... Blazer still causes issues, understandably. One more quick question. If I am using Powerrun for everything but the Alarm, Backup, and hack-like applications are the other apps since they reside on the SD card still loaded upon reset? I don't think so, but I don't use Powerrun, so I'm not positive. In normal operation, anything stored on an SD card does not receive the reset signal.

Would this software be beneficial to devices without NVFS? From what I see above, directing some apps not to load during reset would decrease the time needed to complete a reset? Any software that saves time sounds good to me edit - thx, Tinnus. I always read the readme's, but this had none.

Yes it works on non-NVFS for this exact purpose.

What about this Cache tool? Any feedback for LJP? MemInfo 1.1 mytreo.net/downloads/details-959.html?MemInfoMemInfo, part of Palm's SDK Utilities package, is a small utility to clear and restore the DBCache of NVFS devices. The latest version also allows flushing and defragmenting (to increase largest free chunk) of the DBCache, and has a "compact storage/dynamic heap" feature.

It basicly does the same thing as DBCache Tool, although I didn't know about the defragmentation option

Is Zire31 NVFS or non-NVFS ? Does the mentioned tool work also for it ?
Thanks a lot.

oh boy ;D The Zire31 is non-NVFS. Correct me if I am wrong guys, but isn't the NVFS an internal file system? Mabye you should have explained that before all this discussion. ;D
