LJP Install Guide

Completely detailed instructions for LJP:

1/ you need a device with PalmOS 5.0 or better, 320x320 resolution, and an SD card or internal file system (NVFS - Treo 650, Tungsten|T5, Zodiac)
2/ install "ljp.prc" using "install tool" & "hotsync" or copy it in "/Palm/Launcher" on your SD card
3/ at first launch, it will create all the needed directories & register the .lem extension so you can hotsync the .lem files directly (the .lem files are the 'emulation modules')
4/ copy "ljp-stuff.lem" and the modules you want (nes->ljp-nes.lem, gb->ljp-gb.lem, ...) in "/Palm/Programs/LJP" (NOT in the system directory, for example "/NES")
or use the install tool & hotsync. If you use hotsync to do this, be sure to run LJP once before to register the .lem extension. (needed after each crash/reset too!)
5/ copy your roms in the right folder, depending on the system (see directories layout below) using either a smart card reader or the "mp3" trick (rename the ROM file to .mp3, .prc or .pdb, hotsync it to the SD card and use a program like FileZ (freeware) to rename to the original extension and to move the file to the right directory). There's also a (shareware) program called Card Export (from Softick) which turns your Palm-powered PDA into a card reader.

[DIRECTORIES LAYOUT]

- NES : "/PALM/Programs/LJP/NES"
- SNES : "/PALM/Programs/LJP/SNES"
- GB/GBC : "/PALM/Programs/LJP/GB"
- GENESIS : "/PALM/Programs/LJP/GENZ"


Each directory has 2 subdirectories :

.../Roms : put your zipped/unzipped roms here
.../Saves : savestates/sram backup files are here

For example: Put your NES ROMs in "/PALM/Programs/LJP/NES/Roms", GBC ROMs in "/PALM/Programs/LJP/GB/Roms", etc

To Zip your rom, use a standard zip (report shows StuffIt on mac does not work). Winzip is fine on windows.

[SAVESTATE Import/Export]

- Snes savestate should be compatible with snes9x 1.39 and maybe later version (not sure about this).
ZSnes savestate can also be imported by copying it in the LJP/Snes/Saves directory and have it the '.zst' extension (still buggy so sometimes rom might hang after state loaded).

- GB savestate should be compatible with gnuboy

- NES savestate are standard snss files

- GENESIS savestate are LJP specific.

just a quick note here regarding zipping..

UNIX users can zip with the most compression by doing:
zip -9 rom.name.zip rom.name

I've zipped about 100 roms and tested every single one with this method
and it works like a charm.

Can LJP run on a Treo 600?, because the VCS roms (.bin) don´t lounch.

In RC3 Atari should work. RC2, not.

Are you sure you got RC3, latest version?

Try this: tap center of the screen to open the OSD > CONFIG > GFX > "1" button next to ZOOM. No VCS roms worked for me in RC3 until I figured this out.

The mp3 trick works but it is so S L O W.
The Card Reader you mentioned, Card Export, or MobileStream's Backround Card Reader is faster but you have to manually put each rom in each folder.
An even faster method is to use Resco Explorer or Card Dirs(freeware)
to put associations in place for each of the game rom extensions. .NES, .SMC, .SFC, .BIN.
After that you can just drag the mess into hotsync quick install droplet and hotsync manager will auto sort. Run LJP and enjoy, easy as 3.14159.

The binaries i downloaded with the install directions said I need .lem files however, the ones that I have are .zem files....

I've been trying to get LJP to work on my Treo 680 for a while now but it just doesn't recognize my files or make new directories after I select the program and it does a crash reset.

I'm wondering why it doesn't make any new directories on my card and more over it doesn't recognize my .zem files when I try to put them on my treo through Palm quick install...

Can someone help me? Maybe just give the files I need i can just copy onto my memory card?

1. Strange that the install guide references .lem files. Anyway, .zem files are zipped lem files.

2. Make sure you've got LJP 1.0RC8. Run the app once, then immediately launch HotSync to transfer the .zem files to the right location.

Anyway, the better way to do it is this:
Stick your SD card in a card reader on your PC. Navigate to <SD Card>/Palm/Programs/

Create an LJP directory if it doesn't already exist.
Copy all the .zem files into this directory.

Put the SD card back in your 680, and run LJP.

Take the card back out, put it back in your card reader, and go back to the LJP folder. You should have the following subfolders:
GB
GENZ
GG
NES
NGP
SMS
SNES
TG16
VCS
WS

Each one of these will have a Roms and Saves subfolder. Your zipped or unzipped ROMs for the appropriate platform go in the appropriate Roms folder. Save states and SRAM files will be created in the Saves folder. Game-specific settings saved in <romname>.ini files will also be created in the Roms folder. LJP.ini (the default global settings) will be created in the LJP folder.

im in serious need of help with the installation of LJP! i have moved the files to the appropiate ROM folders and changed their names to .prc. everytime i run LJP though it says: NO ROM! im in need of help so any advice will do.

Haha - where in the world did you read an instruction to rename your roms to .prc files? Seriously, that MP3 "trick" has caused more installation headaches for us than it was ever worth. It never should've been part of the instructions.

Buy a frickin' card reader!!!!!!

That or use Card Export, like as was mentioned above. Copy the files directly to their respective folders - please don't rename anything.

If you already have the roms in your card, get filez and use it to rename them correctly and to move it into the correct ljp file.

But as county said, it is only a head ache. Don't continue to use this method.

Another free alternative is this

its a bit tricky to configure to get a connection, but when you do get a connection, it is fast.

I do not use that anymore though since It isn't a real file browser so I bought some software to imitate a card reader.
