Starting a new thread for Treo 680 feedback.
Just ordered mine a few days ago and am awaiting it.
Theoretically with the upgrade to 64MB, 680 users should no longer need UDMH.

It doesn't have 64M dynamic heap does it?
That's just 64M for the OS and DBCache. The dynamic heap will be some random number that the PalmOS techs decided would be enough.
If you are right though...the Treo 680 would be very useful.

Ok, Well I got some good news and some bad news. First and foremost, the treo 680 is really d**n nice!! Now on to the news.
With the 680 you do NOT need to use UDMH...
Here are the stats with UDMH turned OFF:
Total size: 10,813,440 bytes Free space: 9,094,368 bytes Max chunk size: 6,429,328 bytes
All systems/games work fine with this Off.
Just for grins, here's what it looks like with UDMH On:
Total size: 35,241,712 bytes Free space: 35,241,712 bytes Max chunk size: 63,901,696 bytes
So ya, this kicks a$$.
The bad news:
PXA-Clocker crashes this phone. If PXA-Clocker is ON (even if you having up-stepped anything) and your screen power is Off for 20 seconds or so, the phone will freeze and you will need to reset it by pulling the battery.
So you can run SNES.. but its not gonna be fast till the 680 gets a proper CPU booster.
*cheers*

Also heres my Memory Info stats, in case anyone wants to know. Ive tried flushing the cache several times and it doesnt seem to be changing anything so im thinking maybe it works properlly now and this program has to become depreciated:
Memory Info
Storage Heap Size: 70688KB Storage Heap Total Free: 62404KB
NVFS DB Cache Size: 23855KB NVFS DB Cache Total Free: 21442KB NVFS DB Cache Largest Free Chunk: 16383KB
Dynamic Heap Size: 10560KB Dynamic Heap Total Free: 9076KB Dynamic Heap Largest Free Chunk: 6278KB

10MB dynamic heap by default? Now that's something! Also if it has 23MB of DBCache PLUS the dynamic heap... they probably increased the amount of real RAM, which is really nice Or maybe those 10MB aren't needed by the OS anymore? Maybe they put the OS in a different chip and then we have 32MB for all our RAM needs.

UDMH could only get a max of slightly less than 16M before. With a larger size like that a lot more things become possible. I think you could run just about anything with PalmMAME if that is accurate. Some of the NeoGeo and CPS roms are huge. I might even start looking forward to a new device from Palm now! Thanks for the report. How about a mini-review for playability? Do the buttons work well?

Hey Vilmos, Ya, this phone is definatelty an improvement. A lot less crashes overall. As far as LJP goes, The gameplay and controls are slightly better than the Treo 650, due to the slight redisign of the buttons. The joystick is ALOT more comfortable to use now and the since A/B buttons are bigger, its definately an improvment. For $400 shipped, I highly recommend this phone. I bought 2. If theres any other stats you want to see let me know. Especially if it helps with LJR Tinnus!

Where were you all when we were talking about the 700p? It's got the same huge dynamic heap, and also doesn't need UDMH to run LJP.
Unfortunately it still doesn't work with PXA Clocker, so I wouldn't hold your breath to get 680 support anytime soon.

Just FYI.. I emailed the author of WarpSpeed (CPU Overclocker for Treo) and asked him about support for the 680. He said he would perhaps work on that this weekend.
