I love LJP, the best Palm app ever! Currently I'm running it on a Clie TJ27 with the cool little game controller. It's great except the battery dies after about an hour and I can't charge the thing and use the controller at the same time. I guess that's one way to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. Lately though I've been thinking about getting a used Tapwave Zodiac to try with LJP. Anyone have one of these things? How do they do with SNES games? Thanks.

Works great You can play for about 2h with the standard battery but from what I've heard you can get nearly double that time with a new battery. The emulation is ok. I don't play with sound, but without it most of the games work full-speed with a frameskip of 1 or 2. The controls on the zod allow you to play without any external controller. The only problem you can face is the drifting of the analog stick. Hopefully most of the time that just means you need to recalibrate from time to times.

LJP works good for me on a Zodiac, but I've never compared it with a Clie. The only problem now is that of course all Zodiacs that you can find are second hand and so the battery life isn't as good as it once was. If you're brave you can apparently open it up and change the battery to a new one.

Since I'm now also a proud owner of a Clié UX50 I think I'm qualified to answer this:
The short answer: The Zodiac is definately better suited for LJP
The long answer: The Zodiac has definately better controls. Yes, I know the Joystick isn't ideal, but the buttons alone are a reason. On the NX70v (which I had a long time ago, but it broke before LJP was out) it would have been possible, but on the UX50 with only 3 Hardbuttons and a screwed up keyboard you can play some Gameboy games, but 99% of all SNES games are out of question.
Another issue is the speed. OK, so the UX50 has a lame processor but with 123Mhz it should get at least half the speed of the Zodiac... sadly it doesn't. Copying a bitmap to the screen takes a while and well and since LJP doesn't take advantage of the Clié's 2D accelerator (however it does support the Zodiac's chip) you can't expect miracles. You don't get smooth scaling either. Also, you have to take into account that the Cliés have a very strange sound system, that even when it does work (older Cliés need CliePet's MCA2 wrapper in order to get any sound at all) eats CPU cycles for breakfast, so you can pretty much forget about sound.
Another issue is that you can't use the full screen without external tools, since the Cliés don't support the normal API for the input area.

PS... You don't have to be brave to exchange the battery on a Zodiac... just unscrew the back, then pull the plug on the battery, take out the battery, insert the new one, connect it to the mainboard again and finally attach the back again. No soldering and such involved...
