Is there a way to play 2 player games on one device? For instance Super Mario on the NES, I play as Mario then hand it over to a friend to play Luigi.
Or, now that we have more options for input (BT, IR keyboards, etc) the possibility to map a second controller for simultaneous 2 player games (not that 2 people trying to share a tiny screen is convenient, just asking if it's possible).

It's pretty possible to add an option like "which controller do you want to play as". I'm adding that to the LJX list as you ask Henk to do it in the current one ;D

Uh...ok. Henk, can you add it to the current one? Pretty please?

Haha, thanks guys. Actually it isn't even for myself that I'm all that interested in it (although I would probably use the 2 player hand-off mode occasionally). What happened is I saw a post over at Treocentral of a guy asking how to do this with NesEm and I wanted to say "well NesEm can't do it but LJP can and guess what? It's free!" but then I realized we didn't have it in LJP either (yet). So I guess once we get it in either LJP or LJX we'll be able to help that poor guy out, and the rest of us will have a cool new feature too!

I've always been interested in two players, either by using a toggle button to switch the buttons from player 1 to player 2, or by one person using the palm/screen buttons and the other using the bluetooth gamepad. That's one of the things that would push me to buy the gamepad, actually.

Well, I'm not a reseller of BT gamepads ;-) I will have a look, how it might be implementable...

Just as a disclaimer for metaview: this WILL impact performance if implemented, as the input loop will have to poll for twice the input options, plus the extra controller will have to be loaded into memory. If he implements it well, of course, there will be minimal impact unless the option is enabled.

Good point. Given that, the main thing I'd want is the ability to switch between player 1 and player 2, as that would give some multiplayer ability (2 people watching the same tiny screen sucks anyways) while still polling the same amount of inputs (unless I'm understanding that wrong).
The "hotseat" 2 player mode I think would be much more ideal for a handheld device, and there are still plenty of games that support it.

_Em: no, it will use the device buttons for Player1 and the external controller buttons for Player2. Still each is read one time per cycle.
