Hi. I have LJP for my Palm and VisualBoy Advance for my PC for Gameboy emulation. I really use it for the old Game and Watch emulation that I played when the Game and Watch units were sold (a long time ago). I noticed that with LJP and with PocketGNUBoy for WM5, the first Game and Watch Gallery (with Manhole, Fire, Octopus, and Oil Panic) comes up black and white while VisualBoy Advance comes up with color. Is this game color or is VBA inserting colors? If this game is supposed to be color, why does LJP and PocketGNUBoy play them in black and white?
Please note that I am running LJP 1.0 RC2 since I misplaced the sync cable.

It can go either way, which is why LJP 1.0rc7 and later have an option to switch modes (pretend to be a GBA or pretend to be an original gameboy).

I see. Thanks. I really hope that the Windows Mobile port for LJX comes out shortly after the Palm version. While I have a Palm, it's not a device that I carry with me everywhere I go like my WM5 enabled phone.

By the way, if emulation program draws out the color in the game for GBA emulation, why shouldn't GBC emulation draw out the color? Does GBC play this original game in color or in B&W? I figure the original GB would play the game in B&W, but if a GB/GBC emulator can play the second and third Game and Watch Gallery games in color, shouldn't it be able to play the first in color if the color are already encoded into the game? How does GBA emulation change that?
I'm putting way too much thought into this, but these are questions that just pop into my head.

There isn't any GBA emulation; it's just a flag that gets set that tells the ROM to access color tiles instead of B&W. SGB and GBA handhelds set this flag and LJP allows you to turn it on and off. I think GBC might have set it too, but I'm not sure.

Curious. I wish I knew how to manipulate PocketGNUBoy so that I could have color for the first G&W as well. There is nothing that I can change in the settings that will allow for this. I hope that LJX comes out with a Windows Mobile version soon after the initial release. PocketGNUBoy hasn't seen a release for a year. It may have stopped since the original website doesn't even have the program for download anymore.

I finally got my T5 to link to my laptop via Bluetooth (lost the cable) and tried LJP 1RC9 and I still can't get color for the first G&W title. I know that it isn't the ROM since I use it for VisualBoy Advance. I checked off the GBA mode and still no change. Am I doing something wrong?

I don't even know how to do that. For those who have this game (for those old enough to remember the original LCD games), do you have this particular game in color with LJP? The games appear in sepia tone for me. By the way, I'm notice the sound dropping out at times. Am I doing something wrong? I change the settings on the audio controls and still can't prevent the occasional drop outs.

I found out what setting on VisualBoy Advance allowed me to see color on the first Game and Watch Gallery. It was a SGB setting under the options -> Gameboy menu that allowed me to see color. I understand it stands for Super Gameboy which was a module that allowed SNES owners to play Gameboy games on the SNES. This module added frames and color. Now I understand why I can't get this setting on LJP or PocketGnuBoy (on my WM5 phone). MorphGear's VGB can emulate SGB, but the program frequently freezes on my phone. Are there any plans to emulate Super Gameboy on LJX?

GEST seems to be an open source GB emulator with SGB and multiplayer...

I'll take a look at that, if it's portable (and faster) enough I might try replacing gnuboy with it.

Uh, no, that stuff is global. The emulator just has to say "hey, render this screen however you want" and the OS implementation takes care of it.
