First off, golf claps to the masters who created the best bit of technology I have used in a long time. it makes work fun, and makes my frineds without a treo jealous First q: (and these questions are all coming from a complete newbie) is there a possiblity of getting awesome classic pc games to work on this or other emulators. I have a huge hankerin for Ultima Underworld the Stygian Abyss. next q: all day today was getting wierd screwy reaction on my phone. first it started telling me that it didnt have enough free memory and not all my data could be saved. i tried removing the battery and resetting, lots of resets in fact. with and without my card in. (my card is where I keep ljp and my games and save files.) My phone would restart but without the ability to use any of my apps - they would cause a reset when clicked. Then my email icon on my main page would be missing. then all my apps would simply not be there and my apps page would be blank unless I put my card back in, and then only those apps on my card would show up. when I took out the card - blank again. now - ten hours later - all back to normal? Help please!? us idiots who just like gaming and glorious free programs need some guidance.

try UDMH.. also, you should probably read the manual for your treo or something to learn how to use the 'home' key

Wow...um, try looking at the dropdown menu at the top right of the screen. Amazing! All your programs, sorted in clever categories.
And we have more votes for a DosBox port!
Unfortunately, even with DosBox those games you requested would likely be far too slow to be playable on a Palm. If they were open-source we could make a direct port, which would probably work great, but they're not.
So try writing the current owners of the software and ask really nicely for the Source Code for Ultima Underworld. Bring that to us and we'll be able to help you, but otherwise there's really nothing we could do.

Oh, as a note, it's difficult to tell exactly who'd in charge since both the development studio and publisher of the Underworld series no longer exist, but I'd guess EA now currently owns the rights and IP, as they acquired Origen when they collapsed. Good luck getting them to release any source (that's assuming the source even still exists, which is unlikely). Then again, ZioSoft made a crappy port for PocketPC several years ago, so it's possible the source at least exists. You might need to speak Korean to talk to them though and find out where they got it.

Or, if you find some programmers who are feeling really adventurous, you could try and pick up the discontinued Underworld Adventures project, which was an attempt to create an engine that could run Underworld on modern hardware using the original data files (basically a source port without the source). You can find a list of pretty much every (failed) attempt to recreate Ultima Underworld here.

thanks for the replies. as far as the advise about the Home button, i am a rookie here, but not that rookie. and yes i know about drop down menus as well! ya see I was asking becasue when i treo was fritzing out - the crenn was entirely blank, no apps, no menu bar. if i put my card in it would go to the card page and my apps on the card would show up. when I would press the popular 'Home' button it would go back to a blank screen.
as far as UMDH i read some older posts elsewhere awhile ago about it - but what is it before i put it on my messed up treo and where can i get it?

Read the sticky. Ignore anything in there that's LifeDrive specific, but everything else should apply (especially the part about UDMH). By the way, it's much easier for people to help you when you provide information about what device you're using, how much memory is available (it's in the launcher menu of LJP), and anything else you might find pertinent. The more information you give us the better suited we are to help you.

There's a doxbox port for Palm already, look at zodiacgamer. It was made by voda and is called palmdoxbox IIRC. Be warned that it will be uselessy slow for 90% of what you would want to run on it.
And DON'T double post asking for an answer.

As far as I know, there are no open source TRS-80 emulators available for ARM processors (there is one for Intel X86 processors, but that's not very useful to us).

I talked to Voda a couple of months ago and he said that DosBox is too heavy to make it possible to run games at a decent speed through current PDA devices, even with speedup hacks. That's why he decided to abandon that project, unfortunately. I agree with him: I tried to run some VGA games with my Overclocked 533Mhz Tungsten T3 and it was VEEEERY slow. but it worked, at least to run some game introductions, since it's not playable.

Voda unfortunately made some bad choices, performance-wise when he ported DOSBox. See this thread at 1src -- we've finally got a copy of Voda's code, and Metaview is looking into it.

i want TRS-80 support so that I can play Dungeons of Dragorath !! Well, PalmMAME includes PalmMESS support for the coco3, which I think runs TRS-80 software. You might want to go down this route. Or, you can find DoD for a different platform and play it

Metaview's working on it?!?!? That's the best news I've heard in ages!
Seriously, even if we don't get super-great performance DOS emulation has me more excited than any other project right now.

You need to look at how PalmMAME is shaping up then... not the fastest codebase in the world, but they have PalmMESS working now, which means you can now emulate a Mac Plus on the Palm (among many other systems).

Always a good place to start. However, in this instance, I agree with him -- the alternate method would take quite a bit more work, but just compare your UAE ports to see a more concrete example (I assume I'm following your line of thought with this post)

I am really excited that there is some work being done on dos ems - that could be great.
as far as some specifics with my issues: I am running a treo 700p without udmh (any free versions out there) the memory readout from the launcher screen in ljp is RAM: 8291/5633kb db: 14185/14180kb
i store ljp and the roms on my card, is there anymore info that would be helpful to know?
new issues - now some of my other apps wont work and simply cause a reset. like trying to get my email.
(this might be a silly question, but my save games arent saving to the phone and eating up the memory are they? they save to my save folder which should be on the card, right?)
