I just thought I'd chime in with an "I'm not dead yet" -- but like Tinnus, I'll probably pop in around once a month for the near future -- currently looking for work and the process takes a while at this level :\

@coder12: Well Symbian C is also derived from C/C++ but it's still different from Palm C. I think it'd be about as hard as porting from PC to Palm, or maybe harder since Symbian C has some memory management while Palm C still requires mallocs.

I'm not sure how often I'll come on, probably about once a day, assuming our school's server ever is redone. (I don't have a degree, and all of the tech members at our school do, but yet I know more about technology things than them. Actually, they don't know what a headphone to RCA cable was, OR how to properly network computers) I've been there before...I used to have to avoid computer stores because I'd find myself to tempted to help customers who were obviously clueless...or correcting the employees... I've been on IT staff before, but am not currently, so it's taken me several years to build up enough trust with them that they've finally figured out that I do actually know what I'm talking about when I bring up computer or networking issues (or ideas for improvements). I check his blog from time to time and he is very much still alive, just not alive here. Palm's dying. We still don't have a port of ScummVM from the latest version and PalmOS has fallen to the list of unsupported platforms . Iphone and symbian are both alive and well...the Wii scene is kicking, yet our beloved Palms are languishing.

It's sad, but maybe it's time to start moving on? If you don't want a phone I'd STRONGLY recommend the Pandora for everyone. It's really powerful and versatile in any way possible for a portable console/netbook/minilaptop Oh, and it's got a lot of really cool people over there, including me at least taking care of part of the PS1 emulator! A lot of other old known faces like skeezix and Prophet are over there as well.

Even skeezix? Wow, I really need to check that out...

There's also Squidge, Notaz (devs), and OrR from the nice Zodiac people group, and several other folks I can't remember. Really, ALL of the nice GP32/GP2X/Zodiac folks are there And it's got fullspeed PS1 emulation from day one (with a hardware-accelerated high-resolution video driver if I can get it done on time ), not to mention the obvious like Genesis, SNES, Amiga, etc and evrything below that. Of course if I ever get LJX done it will be there as well!

Well im in contact with OrR anyway (via Bike or Die!), but I really should get one (once I get proof that they exist), maybe next batch (march?)

I've been using LJP for a while and had a few accounts here but kept loosing them as I've changed emails and a couple times and had a fresh install of firefox therefor loosing my saved passwords. I recall you saying that LJX was being programmed in SDL and that you did not like Google Android because you could only write java apps for it. I found this groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/47871c7ac035e847/01731f45b5adce50?lnk=gst&q=sdl#01731f45b5adce50 I'm not sure if this is helpful and just thought I'd let you know. If this is good I may end up getting an android since I need a new phone by the summer and WM7 was delayed to 2010 and who knows how long the new Palm will take. The only thing holding me back from getting an Android is if developers (mostly you guys) don't like it. Also I think the android supports native code now which it didn't when they were having that contest. I like how the Pandora looks but it's not what I need right now.

I love the idea of the Pandora, but I'm never going to carry around 2 devices. The whole point of having a Treo is that I have something that I have on my body at all time because it's my phone that I can pull out in slow moments to play games or do all sorts of other random stuff with. As of now there's absolutely nothing on the market that I have any desire to own to replace my Treo with, though, and nothing that's been announced either, until we finally get concrete details on what Palm's cooking up (not that I'm exactly holding my breath though).
I don't want a WM device. Period. So that leaves: iPhone - even if I didn't hate Apple it still doesn't have a tactile keyboard. Real buttons are a must. Android - poor support for programmers who want direct access to hardware. Blackberry - No touchscreen, bleh software support. Symbian - don't really exist in the US, especially not on a CMDA network, so not even an option.

Android - poor support for programmers who want direct access to hardware. If by direct access to hardware you mean Native Arm code (I don't know too much about this stuff) I don't think the android had any support for this when it was first released but now I found this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Android#Native_code so that either mentions the poor direct access to hardware support or that they now have good direct hardware access support. For me I don't want a windows mobile that much but WM7 looks decent and is better then the alternatives (I will never buy an iPhone) and who knows what Palm is doing.

Netbooks are fast enough to even play PlayStation 2 games on it! There is a nice video on YouTube where you can see Tinnus running around in Final Fantasy X... www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIz06dYzV-USo rather than buying a Pandora to play PSX1 games I would (still) prefer LJX on WinXP, especially after checking this terrible integrated-environment-thingy called Mednafen....

That's the point, of course there already are a lot of nice emu's but there's nothing which puts everything under one LJX-like launcher. And no, this is not Tinnus' channel but the character where his nickname derives from...

LJP, no, but LJX, quite possibly. Wow, now that android has official native application support, I might have to seriously start looking at android devices. They've been completely off my radar up to now.

May be somebody has mentioned it, but I'd like to see touchscreen support enabling directional input and a few onscreen buttons to tap on. Phoinix, a pretty old emulator has this feature, and it renders many games (especially the slow-paced games like RPGs) totally touchscreen compatible, without any need to press any buttons.
And of course, a working landscape mode for non-zodiac devices (I still don't understand why this is so hard to implement).
I think these features should've been implemented already, but I'd be glad to see them in your next release.
Thank you and good luck.

We have a complete thread (or more) dedicated to each of these requests, actually At this point however, if you want new features, you likely have to download the source and add the features yourself. That, or wait a year or two for Tinnus to finish LJX. The other threads describe the difficulties in implementing landscape mode and responsive touchscreen support in excruciating detail, as well as the steps that have been taken to overcome these difficulties.

How's the progress on LJX so far? Your using SDL correct, so I hope this is good news www.anddev.org/port_opengl-sdl-tinysdgl_to_android_with_native_c-t3265.htmlI'm constantly going back and forth in my decision between a Pre and an Android, currently the Pre looks like the better phone, but it looks like as of now, the Android has more potential for better apps. Also there are rumors that webos will get webGL soon, would that mean LJX is a possibility or not? I'll probably be getting one them sometime in the next couple of months but as I said before, whichever phone has the greater potential for LJX or any emulator in general is the one I want. The Nokia N900 with Maemo 5 also looks awesome but won't be available in my area.

And no, this is not Tinnus' channel but the character where his nickname derives from... Actually it's not, my nickname is derived from part of my real name And no, I'm not dead, just having other priorities in life that prevented me from working on any side projects at all for the past year or so
