I just got a Treo 755P. I want to play all the old school NES, SNES, Sega, etc. on it, but I have absolutely no idea where to even start... I am soooooooooo not "tech-savy"... and I have no idea what I'm doing. Can anyone walk me through the process (BABY STEPS)... Please please please......
Thank you!!!

Step 1: go to www.little-john.net and read the documentation there. If you have any questions about it, we'd be happy to answer them in this thread.

I already went there... that's how I ended up on this site... I did the "download", but I can't even find that on my phone. I don't know where to look or what to do next. I really have no idea what I'm doing!

Did you read through the documentation like Em said? The Installation Instructions should be your first step, then check out the FAQ if you're still having problems. If, after all that, you still can't get anything to work, feel free to ask additional questions here.

Yes I did... it's all foreign language to me. I downloaded the emulator zip file and saved it to my memory card, but I can't locate that file in my phone now to even open it.

If you aren't familiar with the standard PalmOS third party apps for managing software on your Treo, you should stay away from downloading directly to your device. Download to your PC, unzip, and hotsync as it instructs in the instructions. Of course, without having the actual games to load to your device, getting the emulator installed will be next to useless. I think the first step is for you to learn about how emulation works on your desktop computer -- this will make working with a Palm emulator MUCH easier for you.

well, there's a) once he's paying someone, it's likely going to be a DMCA federal offence if he lives in the us b) the person would not only have to configure his device but follow these forums for updates/tweaks c) they'd likely have to run/operate the emulated software for him as well.
Of course, I could be wrong... he might be happy with playing "Sack of Flour, Heart of Gold" via NES emulation... but then why not just download and play one of the many free games available for PalmOS?

First of all.... "he" and "him" needs to be replaced with "she" and "her"... and now that being said... you can probably figure out why I can't figure the dumb thing out!!!! ;-)
So now... since nobody can help me get the Nintendo games to work on my phone... where and how can I download these "free" games available for PalmOS???

Yes! I do!!! But I don't have my USB cord with me at the moment... But I should be able to connect my SD card to my computer with a card reader... I have that with me.

Ok, card reader's probably best anyway. You need to unzip that downloaded file (ljp.zip) first before you copy it to your SD card. Go ahead and unzip it to a temporary directory on your desktop for now.
Open that new directory and copy "ljp.prc" to "/Palm/Launcher" on your SD card.
Can we get that far?

|
|
Post by _Em on Apr 8, 2008 21:05:19 GMT 1
Step 1: download the ljp.zip file from Metaview's weblog (not the one on little-john.net) to your PC. Step 2: decompress it. Step 3: insert your SD card in a card reader and copy the files from the zip to /Palm/Programs/LJP/ on the card. Step 4: Copy ljp.prc from that zip to /Palm/Launcher/ on the card. Step 5: Download some NES games from here to your PC. These games are all in the public domain and fully legal to download. Step 6: stick your card in your device, go to the application launcher, select your card, and tap on LJP to run it. Step 7: go back to your application launcher, eject your card, put it back in your card reader, and copy the NES games you downloaded over to /Palm/Programs/LJP/NES/Roms/ Step 8: put your card back in your device, re-launch LJP, select NES from the drop down list of consoles, and... Step 9: Press the config button. Step 10: Pres the Mul Assign button at the bottom of the screen, and start pressing hard buttons/screen areas to set up your virtual gamepad inputs. Step 11: tap Video on the left hand side, set Smoothing to Slow, Display size to x1.25, and frame skip to Auto. Step 12: Press the Browser button. You're now ready to play a game (configuration's over... whew!) Step 13: tap a game or select it with the 5-way select button to launch the game. Step 14: play the game. Tap in the middle of the screen to bring up a menu of options you can configure while the game is playing. Step 15: Exit the game and start playing around with the other configuration settings.

Well... I'm getting closer! I will play with it a bit and try to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I think I'm losing it at Step 7 when I try to copy the game from my desktop to my card reader. It doesn't seem to be copying over to my card...

It doesn't seem to be copying over to my card... you want to copy it just like you are copying any other file from your desktop to the card in the Roms directory of the respective console. so .nes would go here: \Palm\Programs\LJP\NES\Roms\

Just for clarification: "\" is being used as a path delimeter. Your actual path if you're using a Windows PC would be something like: e:\Palm\Programs\LJP\NES\Roms\ or on OS X: <SD CARD>/Palm/PROGRAMS/LJP/NES/Roms/

You also might want to make sure you have enough free space on your card to copy the ROMs over

Hey... why does everyone keep laughing at me?!?!?!? My screen name is "DitzyDaizy"... and the Ditzy part is not a joke! (unfortunately for me...) But I really am trying to figure this stuff out, so give me some credit!!! I very much appreciate all of the extra help I've got from everyone!!! Thank you so much!!! Still can't get the games transferred right. The card is unlocked... and it's a 4 MB card, absolutely nothing on it except the emulator I added yesterday, so it has plenty of empty space for games/roms.
tgwaste... where in Arizona are you?

P.S. im in East Mesa.
